So my impressions of the Embody are as follows.

The chair made my shoulders, ass and back ache for like three days. I figured it was me needing to get used to a proper chair. All the aches have disappeared. When I go back to my old chair, it's sooooo much different than sitting in the Embody that I can't believe I thought it was comfortable. So just note that it did take a few days for my body to adjust.

I said previously, the chair build quality is good, not great. I revise that because I had to mess with the chair because my headrest arrived yesterday. The build quality is great. Every part of the chair that would be stressed is either one solid piece, or has metal in/out/surrounding it to strengthen it. The seat and the back connection especially.

The seat itself is perfect. There is no hard surface. Think of it more like a hammock. The cushion is suspended via springs and such. With no major flares up the side of the seat, it feels much wider than it is.

You of course buy this chair for the back support, and while not perfect IMO, it's much better than anything I have ever used previously. The adjustability is great. It took me a day or so to get it right for me.

The headrest is from a third party called Office Logix. It's OK. Better than nothing. I snagged it because I needed a headrest asap. I ordered the Atlas headrest, though it's a six week wait or the color of my chair.

Amazon product ASIN B0C7PL963F

Anyway. I will keep the chair. Now that I am used to the Embody, it is pretty nice. I do not think it's worth near 2k though.

I'm actually favouring the sturdy upright nature of the Aeron backrest over the flexi-lean of the Embody, however, just found a tune up guide that helped my back feel better supported

1. Turn knob at rear bottom right all the way back. Notice how the back rest relaxes and leans away from the seat

2. Position butt all the way to back of chair (adjust seat depth if necessary). Notice the bump in chair at base of spine, sit as upright as possible and look forward. Only part of your back in contact with chair should be on the bump at base.

3. Turn rear bottom right knob forward as the back-rest flexes to meet your back....gradually relax into the chair as the bump at base feels less intense.

4. The back rest should meld into one piece and gently cup your shoulder blades

After 30+ days with Embody it's too late to send it back. I actually don't love it - the base isn't very soft or comfortable

Where's everyone at with their chairs? I am rearranging rooms and had been using our old recliner as an office chair while we 'unpacked' and you know how that goes. At the office I can pretty much walk around on calls since I pace a lot as a habit from my retail days in high school/college, but that's less practical at home where I am actually drafting documents or watching stuff/playing games in the evening. I'm getting a walking pad so I can use that during the day. I had an Aeron at work in the past and I really didn't care for it, so I swapped for one of those Steelcase task chair models and that's always turned me off the pure ergo mesh style chairs. The SecretLab Titan looks (big padded slab) like it would be good because I do sit cross legged sometimes and I like to move around. Unfortunately it seems they are super firm, and I'd really just like Lincoln town car seat on wheels tbh.

Is there anything that's actually comfy but higher quality than the Serta/La-Z-Boy Staples special?

I'm interested in this as well. I've been waiting to drop 1.5-2kish on a "lifetime" chair, but just not certain of what'll fit best without being able to test them all.

Everything I've watched, read, etc. keeps pointing to just getting a Gesture though.

Well I'm impatient. There is one nice office place nearby that actually opens on Saturday so drove in. Still hate the Aeron. Embody was ok but seat bottom wasn't as comfortable. Gesture was OK but again conference room bottom cushion. Leap V2 is so comfy grabbed one of those. Legit only chair I've sat in and not immediately has a comfort clock in my head where I knew I would have to get up in under 2 hours.

Got it with all the options and the roller blade rubber casters.

Still using my Leap V2 I landed for $35 in a neighborhood garage sale - MY HOA finally paid off!

Absolutely love it. By far my favorite out of all the options I tried (Amia, Gesture, Embody, Aaron etc). I have an Aeron at work and it's a good chair, but I'd immediately swap it for a Leap.

Note: other Steelcase chairs I've had all developed a weirdly annoying squeak when leaning back within a week of having them. The Leap has not.

I'm still using the Gesture years later. Nothing about it is broken and I took 0 care with it. I lean back with the headrest and bounce on the recline pins and it hasn't broken. I've broken multiple points of other office chairs. I've broken seats, armrests, and recline functions in other chairs. The Gesture shows no signs of that. The armrests I don't put a ton of pressure on, however I do what I want with them, including pushing down on them to stand up or reposition my body in the seat, using my full tricep force of my weight by grabbing the arms near the base of the seat to lift off. Again, no sign of armrests loosening or breaking. This is a major indicator of a tough to damage chair, as it's been some years now.

I don't really like the lack of bigger lumbar support in the Gesture compared to the midback Leap. The Gesture lumbar doesn't really give you a ton of pushback, it's like you are floating when laying against the back. The Leap grabs your back with strong support. The "floating" of the Gesture is a huge negative for me but not enough to make me seek to replace it. The Leap was the real support I'm looking for, but no headrest and/or subpar poorly reviewed headrest was a huge dealbreaker for the Leap. The Leap also cut blood to my legs in normal sitting posture, which doesn't happen in the Gesture. Final complaint with the Gesture is I'd like the armrests to come back and retract backwards an additional 3-4 inches. Pretty big flaw for me not being able to get as close to the desk as I would like while keeping the armrests level with the desk (which is preferred for gaming for me). If you are a guy that keeps the armrests under the desk when gaming, then this is no concern for you.

If you need a highback with a headrest it's tough to put anything over the Gesture.

I'm going to grab the Atlas headrest now that it's finally available to give the Embody another chance, but no real expectation that it'll overtake the Gesture at this time.

I found the gesture to be very similar to the leap but the base was less comfortable and the back was ever so slightly less correct shape wise. Otherwise it was very similar, I probably would have gone with it as option 2.

Oh the one thing that was strictly worse with the leap was the max tension in the recline. Gesture was better. But leap has a stop so that works fine. Also gesture maybe had slightly straighter "0 point" on the back.

Yeah that's the floating I'm trying to describe. The Gesture back is a bit of an odd fit. When you sit in a Leap you feel at home, the Gesture is meh. I got to test both back to back at the time.

Leap was a hard no for me due to ass numbness and bloodflow, which tracked with some of the warnings on reddit about it. Doesn't affect everyone and depends on bodyweight to be sure.

So the one downside of these rollerblade wheels is they roll... a lot. lmao its a good thing this floor is dead level. But if I recline the chair i start to roll.

You dodged a bullet. I have a Titan here I was able to break in just a few months. A friend of mine broke his in a similar time frame. Complete trash compared to Steelcase offerings.

Sure there might be 150lb guys getting longevity out of the chair, but the build quality is junk. My friend is considerably more heavy than me and he's using a refurbished Leap he bought from a reseller refurb site, not even a new Leap, nothing broken on it going over a year now. The costs are high on full retail price but you do get build quality. And pretty sure Oblio has had his Gesture for several years now with nothing broken.

I'm around 180 and the Titan build quality always felt fine to me. I just thought it was uncomfortable as fuck, especially the back.
