So what was the deal with the hole in the ground? It's not like I'm never going to watch it at this point. Was there a dominant theory on what was going on?

I think the direction the show was going was that ultimately the Abbott's lose the ranch to the government, who sometime in the future build a research facility on that piece of the land, leading to the temporal anomaly that is "the hole."

I didnt follow closely enough to see the connection from the Abbott's to the research facility, I guess. At this point, its no surprise its just going to end up a loose end. If I paid enough attention when I watched the episodes, it seemed like the writers were caught in this kind of weird period. Where they would rewrite old facts with new facts to fit the narrative, and then somehow warp and contrive the timeline to fit that narrative. Just open ended as can be, imo. With what Ive seen, taking into account the cancellation news - there is like ZERO reason to even waste your time with this show - if there is no resolution, then its a fucking waste of time.

I really enjoyed this. Wish it didn't get cancelled, and that there was a bit more explanation on what the deal with the hole is.

Halfway through the first season I suspected this was going to be the new Lost. I stopped watching after the first episode of season 2 as it seemed to confirm it but I guess it was worse than Lost!

Did anyone finish S2? Can you post a TL;DW here? lol.
Older blonde chick is realized to be the old version of young Amy. Old Amy doesnt know she's Amy. Old version of Amy coerces the Tillerson boy's. One brother ends up killing the other. The brother that killed the other brother finds the brother stash of black hole heroin and gives it to Amy. She trips out and writes a bunch of shit on young Amy's walls since she's staying in that room. Black Hole Heroin makes her also trip out and realize that she is Amy, and also enables young Amy version of an alter ego that follows her around. Mr. Abbott finds the body of the dead son and goes into an alcohol fit of despair and burns that gorgeous fkn house down.

Sheriff Joy goes back in time, lives with her tribe a while, finds another person from the future there. Runs into little Roy. Joy helps little girl avoid rape by a white man. Royals dad was enlisted by the guy that had his rape sabotaged by Joy, to help find Joy. Joy kills rapist, gets caught with no ammo and wounded by Roy's dad. Roy comes up on them late and Joy turns him against Roy's mean old dad and he shoots him. The whole ordeal traumatizes Joy as she finds herself back in the future.

The abbott family loses the farm because it was used as bail for their kid that dipped out in the hole. They get it back because old Amy guilt tripped the Church. Royal tells his wife about the Hole and that he's from another time. The son that went back in time runs into Roy as an adult before he and his mom hook up. They dont really accomplish anything other than beating up Mr. Tillerson as a teenager and shooting one of his friends.

Some black scientist that was originally enlisted by the Tillersons to research the black hole heroin shows up like 3 times total. But since the Abbotts won their farm back, she has to go through Royal. Royal tells her to get fucked. The Abbott son sees it a different way and makes an impossible deal with her behind Royal's back.

Theres probably some major key points that I'm skipping, but honestly.. I didnt really gain a whole lot of insight from this season. I personally dont think the original script went past season 1. They were asked if they would do another season and said "Sure. Fuck it. We can get 8 episodes out of a 200 word story."

Honestly - going over that bit of shit just made me wish for another Yellowstone that isnt on season 55. Or hell, 1863 was good too. Cowboys and Indians wasnt even my age range /generation, but I enjoy those movies and shows so much more lately.
