One thing to consider is it's kinda hard to build shit at a site where creatures randomly pop out and wreck shit. Also, it's underwater. Traditional projectiles are kinda pointless due to water resistance, so not sure what a turret would do?

Even if you decided to basically make Atomic Claymores ring the thing, you would a) need some type of detection system to confirm a creature came through and a remote trigger system (a wire mind you, due to the depths no doubt) b) you would have to replace this detection/remote trigger system everytime you used a nuke, because presumably the detection/trigger system would get vaporized after you trigger said nuke.

This would work until the monsters started spawning like fucking zerglings, at which point you're fucked again.

This was my "behind the scenes" explanation for the "wall of life". I don't think I mentioned it. Fact is, a real explanation of the wall isn't really needed. just like the Jeagers. Would exposition really have helped the movie?
I did watch it again btw. So have a better remembrance of what exactly was said.
Jeagers were failing, more and more were pilots were dieing.

The wall was not a zoo. or an attempt to just make a barrier and hope they go away.
Strikers missiles, and Gipsy's Proton cannon clearly worked. yet, neither were used FIRST, or from a distance, like any sane person would. Striker was told to hold back at Hong Kong, and yet didnt fire at the Kaiju tearing Alpha and Crimson apart. this worlds long range targeting systems must suck. Seriously, think about it. if their rockets(jet, nuclear, jeager, etc) only work within 1 mile, that would explain a whole lot.
So the wall, was intended to herd the Kaiju into a kill zone. entire Pac coastline gets a wall with 4 gates/kill zones, loaded with proton cannons, and missiles.

One of the things I thought of recently was how there were a whole bunch of jaegars (I had four fully stocked bays of this size etc etc) and it isn't until we are down to four evas that a double event even happens and a bunch of the powers we see (acid spray, flight, emp) are all for the first time. Why wasn't every single Kaiji being gang banged? In all the footage we see it's like, one jaegar trading with one kaiju. Fuck all that noise!

jaegers was a very expensive program. if one jaeger can handle one kaiju then no point risking damage to two. especially since the kaiju spawns were increasing and it also takes time to repair and prepare one of them. think of it like our space shuttle program. why have single shuttle missions when you can just launch em all at once?

To answer your post, continuing the discussion:

From my original post:. . couldn't we ( the humans ) have built a series of Bad-ass gun turret things that would be placed on the sea floor, pointed at the rift . . .

By that I meant built on land and then taken to the site and lowered to the sea-floor. Which could be a difficult operation yes, but well worth it once done.

Also, it's underwater. Traditional projectiles are kinda pointless due to water resistance, so not sure what a turret would do?
Torpedos, or futuristic super high speed torpedos

Not kidding either they are pretty much real now:

From Wiki:In 2004, German weapons manufacturer Diehl BGT Defence announced their own supercavitating torpedo, Barracuda, now officially named "Superkavitierender Unterwasserlaufk?rper" or "supercavitating underwater running body" (English translation). According to Diehl, it reaches more than 400 kilometres per hour (250 mph).

I think that would work pretty good and sit well into the "bad-ass turret" description.

. . .you would a) need some type of detection system to confirm a creature came through . . .
There was something like that in the movie, at that final 'carry the nuke to the rift' mission. When the Jaegers walked towards the rift there was a creature swimming around them. The pilots could not see/detect it. It was the crew back at mission control who were telling them it was off their port side 200m away etc. Had a handy screen that showed were all the parties were.

guys, no matter what...it makes no sense, so stop trying to find sense in it

let me show you why:

why the did not gangbang the monsters if there were 40 jaeger?a possible answer is that they had to spread them all around the pacific coasts because they didnt knew where the kaiju would attack, so they had usually 1 jaeger per city. They could not gangbang them because it takes time to move one for support. By the time it got there the fight was ended, one way or another. So while the kaiju became stronger and stronger, the fight went from clean victory, to dirty victory, to near defeat, to defeat. And jaegers started to lose badly when category 4 kaiju entered the field

makes sense? NO IT DOESNT BECAUSE IN THE MOVIE IT'S CLEAR THEY HAVE A FUCKING 100% ACCURATE KAIJU GPS SO THEY KNOW WHERE AND WHEN THEY ARE GOING TO HIT. they had all the fucking time in the world to move the jaegers around and make 10 vs 1 fights and be fucking done with it. There was no logical reason for them to lose even one jaeger until probably the predicted 4 kaiju events

this movie is full of plotholes larger than the meteor crater in Arizona. and it's fine like this. let it go

Well, the "long range targeted systems" suck answers this as well. Again, like in Hong Kong with striker hanging back. If the only way to gang bang kaiju was to run up and fist fight them, 5 or more on 1 target would result in more friendly fire then anything else.

also, the pilots we saw were the best of the best still alive. Again, other pilots made mistakes. Passing out, getting lost in the drift, etc was happening frequently.

Category 1 and 2 didn't need to be gangbanged. Jeagers were wrecking them. But cat3 came around. Stronger Kaiju and pilot error, Jeagers started dropping. Success rates went from 100% to 80%, to 60%.

The math on when Jeagers would arrive was recent as well remember.
They didn't KNOW 5 years earlier that they would arrive in a fairly mathematically timed period.

so at any given time half the pilots would be asleep. they must have certainly had shifts. So at any given time 10 out of the 30 were probably actually ready to go. 30 "active" at its prime, but 10 with primed and fight worthy with crews on shift.

Striker eurika's cost was 100 billion$. Although I think price is something that is not relevant. that wall would have been absurd as well. cost of everything in this movie would be just crazy.

So if a film does incredibly well overseas but flops in the U.S., does that make it a hit? As with everything else to do with box office, the answer is "it depends." But generally, domestic revenue seems to be be better for studios than overseas revenue, because the studios take a bigger cut of domestic revenue.

According to the book The Hollywood Economist by Edward Jay Epstein, studios take in about 40 percent of the revenue from overseas release - and after expenses, they're lucky if they take in 15 percent of that number.

Domestic revenue just counts for a lot more than overseas revenue, says David Mumpower with Box Office Prophets:

The reason for this is simple. Collecting revenues abroad is a trickier proposition since the dollar fluctuates against foreign currencies. There are also tariffs from these governments in place in order to keep as much money as possible from leaving their countries and going abroad, which is an understandable practice. While the global conglomerates such as Fox, Disney and Time-Warner that run major Hollywood studios can secure sweetheart deals with various local governments, it doesn't happen for each film. As such, international box office revenue is much less reliable than in North America.

And again as has been said before it is mostly all bullshit accounting games being played by hollywood.

It's been said that the most creative people in Hollywood are the studio accountants.

They find ways to drop the money into big holes in the system.

There was a good example with the film My Big Fat Greek Wedding which was made for less than $6 million, pulled in $350 million, but in the end the studio said it lost $20 million.

As a reminder, the crew of gypsy danger and striker eureka talk about a joint strike they did before ralieghs brother died. It wasn't always 1v1. If I remember correctly that joint strike was like 5 Jaeger's vs 1 kaiju.

They did joint strikes all the time... I even think stringer heimdall told gypsy to wait for another Jaeger in the very first fight of the movie, but the brothers wanted to save the fishing boat.

I wonder if the Chinese version of the film has the Crimson Typhoon actually doing something, rather than getting plowed after barely throwing a punch.
