I like how Brad unintentionally admits that he is using the Unity assets in an MMO version of a shell game. "We're just using them now so we can do art assets later". How much later, exactly? Are we supposed to drink the koolaid about some nebulous future miracle-patch or content update? I mean, it's like having someone try to pitch a business idea to you while you're sitting at IHOP at 3am. But instead of showing you anything concrete and worth investing in, they just use what is on the table to illustrate their "vision"...i love looking in the comments section on some of these Brad videos, they're really confidence inspiring. Which one of you is Micheal? lol
What. the. actual. fuck?Do you remember how EQ was made? Mostly a bunch of nobodies got together and did somethingthat had never been done before. And that was built from scratch.
Pretty much. I'd bet a ton of cash that's how many awesome projects have started. The one thing all of those projects would have had in common was that they were largely unique, didn't have the existing tech to visualise them and that they had new mechanics.I like how Brad unintentionally admits that he is using the Unity assets in an MMO version of a shell game. Erronius's Ihop analogy is absolutely perfect, and so is this point by Sabbat.Pretty much. I'd bet a ton of cash that's how many awesome projects have started. You could play Heroes of Might and Magic 2 using pieces of cardboard, some notes and a hex grid. It wouldn't BE HoMM2 though, but the game play would have been identical.
This is where these jokers should be starting to make Pantheon. Get a concrete playable model that works with ZERO tech. Because the current "tech" they are using isn't helping at all.
He had to steal 45k in crowdfunded cash just to keep gas in his motorcycles. He never would have been able to raise the money to buy VG back let alone hire a team to do anything with it.He should have just bought back Vanguard and he would have had an already made game with his name on it. What a fucking dummy
Should've renamed it as Samsquanch.I added the letter "C" to the thread title. Now that you have proof of my skills as a developer, pls invest in my upcoming browser based MMO.
Yeah, at that point last night, as drunk as I was, I wasn't even trying to be funny with that comment. I really do feel bad for him because it's true. Brad would/will throw these people away like trash if the opportunity presents itself. Not that I can really blame Brad for that, though. These guys just don't have near the experience/skills to make an MMO from scratch.Erronius's Ihop analogy is absolutely perfect, and so is this point by Sabbat.
I'd assume one could play Everquest 1 in a pen & paper format and some dice and a map. Does anyone, Brad included, have the slightest clue about the mechanics of Pantheon? I'd put money on no.
They're so absolutely wrapped around the axle with creating a world space in unity using alleged placeholder assets that nothing else has been considered. It seems so counter-intuitive.
I guess the absolute panic with which they are trying to cobble together a glorified terrain simulator of unity prepackaged landscapes in order to make a video of Brad traversing it in a $99 Unity asset store avatar with no animations, no race, and no class is simply due to the fact that, well, that is all they are capable of doingbecause its the easiest step. Its like making a custom Doom 2 map in 1997, but with no guns or monsters and trying to sell it off as a new game. It all goes back to creating the illusion of competence. Just shit together something that resembles a facsimile of a tech demo using premade assets (that will never be Jesus Patched away) using inept, uneducated, and inexperienced volunteer labor so Brad has something, ANYTHING, to shit out to investors like digital dysentery, so he can secure funding to hire someone who has the first fucking clue.
etched said it best though, much to Kyndread's dismay, when/if the time comes Brad will sell out that volunteer "team" for a ham sandwich and bus fare.
Someone make this happen.Should've renamed it as Samsquanch.
