I don’t really recall what PF was. The gameplay has always been enjoyable, but prior to the “refactor” it was basically all Unity assets. Now they’re adding more and more custom art and models all the time.
PF was the big elf-home zone, with the fancy big-tree forest+flora (old wood), the big field beside that, and the unfinished elf city. It was their internal art to represent the Pantheon they wanted - or at least that's how it was advertised. We got a single session in there at one point. What was finished was sorta neat. They wanted to do a big vertical slice in a single zone for investors. They ended up doing the refactor after that long dark period post mid-2018, and then they later have said Faerthale couldn't run well. Not clear what plans there are for the old zone now, but nobody has seen it since. Maybe it just needs some tree LODs, for them to remember to bake some culling
, and a re-paint? I don't see it honestly being too different from Wild's End now in terms of complexity & size, but who knows.
Their new environmental art is pretty nice. I'm not super hot on the earlier "new art style" stuff (ie Thronefast & AVP are just sorta ok, but maybe I've just seen them too much), but I think they hit their groove with Mad Run, Hanggore, and the 3 new zones enviro art & feel. Some solid stuff that leaves you wanting to see more. Their new character armor system (look for the ogre swapping a bunch of armor video on youtube) is actually really impressive IMO and looks great. Their player character races - bit of a mixed bag atm IMO, I hope they get some polish & iteration in some areas. I think this is an area where people being paused may have hurt them somewhat. Glad they're getting them in though. Oh - the new pets look great. Props in their environmental art are lacking - what is in looks good though (a human & bandit set might be it).
NPC character art is an area in which they've struggled historically. The only ones I think might be fully in-house atm are the goblin, gas bat, and I think orc. I wasn't sold on the goblin at all in model shots (Gremlins 2 hi2u), but in-game it looks good. I think many - or even most - of the rest of the models may have started on the store though. Some are obviously still placeholder (<3 me some Low-poly animals), some are direct from the store unchanged, others have been given an art pass to make them critters of Terminus. That's not a bad thing - using store stuff was in the original pitch even - and some of them turned out really well (examples - Giant Bee SimP looks great with the skin work/model tweaks and Fantasy Golem fits as-is IMO).
All in all, coming along pretty well - 2024 has been a good year in that regard. Hopefully all the positive stuff around the EA leads to a nice level of interest and continued progress in 2025. I've had some fun so far in EA, and they've had, in the grand scheme of things, a pretty decent EA launch in terms of technical issues.
