Beating a dead horse here, but really *I* think it's impressive that they're even able to get 40+ new backers a day which is why I really wish they had set the goal lower. They've got almost $350k in pledges. That's nothing to sneeze at, right? But they get $0 to work with unless they hit $800k. I know, I know. I just can't help pointing that out. again.
Setting up funding on their own website...not sure how much revenue they'll generate. Just bc it seems riskier than donating through KS. Regardless of the reality, a lot of backers can tell themselves if no game is ever developed, they can report it to KS and get their $ back. It's like ebay vs craigslist.

On the other hand, it would be instant, so no re-thinking it and revoking your pledge later lol

They have 15 days left. Some updates and interviews planned, plus a facelift to the KS. It will be close..

Is this true? If they fund and end up not making the game because they could not find further funding, people can ask for their money back? I thought once you sent it, its gone for good.

Think the only thing they have to follow thru on is physical shit like cloth maps..

There is epic trolling happening on this thread.
There really isn't. I know it's hard to believe but there REALLY isn't.

Ut got kicked out of this thread early. Not that he would be trolling either -- he just legit goes insane over stuff like this. The rest of us who might take some genuine enjoyment out of trolling this thread... it's just too easy. I mean there's a line.

Brad has already trolled these guys for real life money. A couple of mean spirited giggles? How can that compete.

This thread would probably be epic if Ut had been allowed to post in it.

tl;dr: This thread makes trolls sad.

Not true what TragedyAnn said, so you are right. From the Kickstarter FAQ:

Can Kickstarter refund the money if a project is unable to fulfill?

No. Kickstarter doesn't issue refunds, as transactions are between backers and the creator. In fact, Kickstarter never has the funds at all. When a project is successfully funded, money is transferred directly from backers' credit cards to the project creator's Amazon Payments account. It's up to the creator to issue a refund, which they can do through their Amazon Payments account. (Like PayPal, Amazon Payments allows refunds for 60 days from the date of charge. After 60 days, creators cannot reverse the same charge to backers' credit cards, so to issue refunds they'll need to initiate a new transaction to send money via Amazon Payments or PayPal, send backers a check, or use another method. Our support team has guided creators in how to issue refunds like these before.)

Why can't Kickstarter guarantee projects?

We started Kickstarter as a new way for creators and audiences to work together to make things. The traditional funding systems are risk-averse and profit-focused, and tons of great ideas never get a chance as a result. We thought Kickstarter could open the door to a much wider variety of ideas and allow everyone to decide what they wanted to see exist in the world. Kickstarter is full of ambitious, innovative, and imaginative ideas that aren't possible anywhere else.

The pursuit of these projects with a guarantee doesn't work. A Kickstarter where every project is guaranteed would be the same safe bets and retreads we see everywhere else. The fact that Kickstarter allows creators to take risks and attempt to create something ambitious is a feature, not a bug.
There have been several failed projects already.

They need cloth caps, not maps. That shit would sell, yo.
Excellent.

Kinda sad that this idea has more creativity in it then anything I have seen in the Kickstarter so far.

The cloth cap-bug is current untill this day too: there is currently a bugged quest during the Errolisi days in EQ that gives you a Coth Cap.....

There is still a "decent" size group of potential supporters who would like a response about Salim's involvement during his tenure with VG and EQ2.

I say "decent," as it is at least mid double digits from vocal people.

Ignoring them just reduces the number of potential supporters. Even if he said: "It was all my choice.. Deal with it." You don't lose them.. because you never had them. Just about any other answer, with a good supporting insight, would be enough to sway those "on the fence."

*shrug*

They should clone Vu and Weimann for creation, with LeFever's ideas and Tony writing the back story. That would be the shit right there.

Even if he said he argued that none of the terrible decisions were made by him and he was forced to do them, it doesn't excuse all of his smartass, flippant, asshole attitude towards the community. I doubt anyone told him to do that. I say fuck him, they deserve every non-backer that they have due to him.

This game isn't going to be made off kickstarter's $800k. He has other funding options in mind I'm sure.
The entire game, no. However, a good plan would be to get an alpha client with 10 levels and access via Green Light as has been mentioned before. Look at how much cash DayZ and Rust are making on Steam. I think DayZ pulled in 12M the first week it was there, and continues to be at or near the top of the Steam sales chart.

We all want this game, detractors including. The way to shut us Doubting Thomas types up and actually get us to contribute is to give us an actual product. The problem is I don't think they can get a working product out soon, based on their team configuration, cost of living in San Diego, and sense of urgency. The Kickstarter really made me doubt things even more.

Oloh has made some pretty good points regarding Unity, and if my hunch is correct that they have some code/help from SOE under the table then I think the Steam Alpha would be a really good option for these guys.

I think their communication has been pretty much garbage lately and the KS funding reflects that. They may be making comments here and there on other places, but if they are spreading valid information about the game, it needs to be on the KS since everyone goes these first. Their goal should be backers and the first point of contact should always be the KS page, not a treasure hunt for info through the internet.

If it doesn't meet goal I hope to hell their web page where they privately collect funds is a shitload better than what they've done with the KS so far because my opinion is even if you want this type of game, I can't say they've done anything to actually deserve a pledge. Again, the KS bears this out.

That logic can easily be applied to everyone who has posted to this thread... And yet the general consensus is that they should listen to us. Hypocritical much?

Those are not the same thing at all. We are their potential paying customers. We were Vanguards paying customers. In almost every other industry, if you talk to your paying customers the way Salim did, you are fired.
