Wait, I thought you were protecting the board from getting conned. Not being a dick, just trying to follow along with all the hate and it comes across as mixed messages at times. Booze, with all due respect, the board was founded playing the game that Brad McQuaid made. Why is it even a little bit surprising that there are a lot of loyalists here. If anything, this board is the most fanatical about a game he would create. Why are you so worried about it and intent on telling everyone they are dumb for trusting the guy. Everyone gets it, lol. They understand the risks. no one here hasn't heard of VG or anything. Everyone knows. They dont care. They are excited. Let them be, lol.

If you design a game around PvE and then you throw in a server that just 'flips the switch', you wind up with a horribly imbalanced PvP game. The game you're wanting isn't EQ PvP, it's DAoC. That game was designed for both PvE and PvP in mind.
I don't want DAoC because I don't really PVP. Embrace the fact that you can't accommodate every whiner and that PVP might be out of whack. Or go to a game that sets PVP as a priority and PVE will be imbalanced.

I always found it odd that PvP proponents seldom wish to impose their preferences on anti-PvP people, and simply want a separate and optional rule set server to choose from whereas anti-PvP people often zealously wish to impose their preferences on the admittedly smaller PvP enthusiast crowd, and rally against any PvP development or servers, marking said attention or resource allocation that absolute hallmark of business suicide or resource misapplication. Often extremely vocally and emotionally involved.

I've seen it in almost every AAA title I've followed, and even on smaller projects like EQClassic. Boggles the mind.

"NO! NO PVP! NONE FOR ANYBODY D:" Saw this on the EQC forums a while ago, as an example.
Because people opposed to PvP as a principle are the same fucking idiots saying dumb shit like NO PARSERS EVER IT RUINS EVERYTHING EVAR!!!

Basically, idiots gravitate toward extremist, ignorant opinions?

Generally I find it the opposite. The small minority of overtly vocal pro PVP people want the ability to gank on demand and if they don't get it, they are mad.

Generally, if people really wanted to PVP, they'd go play LOL or DOTA, but by and large what they really want is to grief, which is why they are mocked by the normals.

I'm totally cool with servers dedicated to PVP. What irks me is when games I enjoy end up fucking up classes and their overall game to 'balance' or fix things. Really hate that shit.
Trust me, the last thing we want to do is play with a bunch of whiny bitches who'll complain it's not fair they suck at games, can't make friends, or weren't smart enough to NOT roll on a fucking pvp server.

You know what also pisses off smart pvpers? When devs are shitty enough to mess up pve and class balance. Because smart gamers hate shitty devs, whether those gamers are fans of pvp or not.

Generally, telling someone else what they should play if they like the thing you don't have the same definition for is dumb. What you think is pvp, isn't even close to most of us.

Everyone here is so supportive of community and socializing? It wasn't ever as important as it was on EQ pvp servers.

The server that gets the lion's share of the people doesn't break 1,000 so what do you expect? A PVE centric game is going to draw more PVE people. The logic that gets thrown around here sometimes is fucking baffling.

The P99 Blue has around 1200 people on it every night. I've had no troubles pick up groups in practically any zone I wanted to play in since I started.

Every time I play I see about 800 people. Maybe pantheon has boosted numbers, but you're still only talking about 1200 so that doesn't change my point.

Also, I said nothing about getting groups so I'm not sure where that comes into play.

If you didn't like imbalances, then you clearly also didn't like EQ's pve.

And I didn't say everyone rolled pvp. But those who did did so because they loved the model and do feel it's better than the pvp-in-an-instance we keep getting.

Or maybe people don't like fast, rear-wheel drive cars because everyone isn't buying 60's muscle cars? /logic

Red has how many people? It's dead and has no draw. That's the point. The same was true for EQ. The same for WOW, but to a lesser degree as WOW had no penalties for PVP or real consequences and a much larger pool of players. Most gamers do not like PVE/PVP hybrid games. Most of us bitch that games we like, a la WOW, Rift, etc ended up fucking up classes to try to shoehorn PVP balance. Whomever said make your PVE game and throw a token PVP server down and spend no dev team on it has it right. The problem is that's never the case.

PVP is popular as LOL and DOTA have staggering numbers. Gankfests or meaningless MMO PVP seems to be a very niche environment.

I like PVP. I loved DAOC and played it for years. I just think EQ PVP sucked ass, and there is no appeal to me to go gank or kill someone in a PVE-group centric game, or to just randomly PK. I'm intrigued by Camelot Unchained as I like that design and would play that. I'd say I'm pro PVP but my records in LOL and DOTA would tell a different story, and I despise MOBAs more than meaningless gank games.
