Hoping Brad reads this.
So far I'm loving every thing I'm hearing about Pantheon. I'm finding it hard to contain my excitement and not get my hopes up. This coming after giving up on MMORPGs due to the direction they have been going. That combined with feeling burned on VG, then even more so on EQNext(EQNot). I just haven't wanted anything to do with MMORPGs anymore outside of scratching the itch occasionally playing on EQ emu servers. But Pantheon gives me hope once again.
A lot of the elements I would like to see in Pantheon have been discussed/confirmed to some degree already, but there are a couple things I could mention to help drive home their importance.
First, and honestly most important to me, please make PvE and PvP completely separate to a similar way that was done in EQ1. What I mean is, on a PvE server there should be no battlegrounds/ranked arenas, or any incentive to PvP at all outside of boredom like people did on EQ PvE servers. In wow it drove me nuts playing on what was supposed to be aPvEserver, seeing chat channels spammed with PvP LFG and PvP epeen related chatter. It really made it feel like I wasn't on a PvE server at all, but instead a 50/50 PvE/PvP server. In addition to that, PvP attracts certain type of people. People that are immature, unfriendly, epeen swinging douches. I'm not saying everyone that PvPs is like that, just that thats the bait that attracts those types more the PvE content. I was fond of EQ because of the community, friendliness, and general game focus on working together with people. And such people are counter to that.
I never truly enjoyed my time on WoW, often being only able to last a few months at a time. But one thing that always annoyed me, and actually caused me to quit this last time, was how balancing PvP effected PvE. In my case they nerfed an ability because they deemed it over powered in PvP due to a bunch of people whining about it. In PvE it was perfect and great. Not OP, or UP. Something I was wanted for a long, LONG time. It got nerfed because of PvP, and was made pretty much worthless in PvE. That wasn't the first time that such things have happened on WoWs life span, just most significant to me. Simply PvE and PvP balancing should be separate. Or since I personally have zero interest in PvP, I couldn't care less is PvP balance suffered from PvE balancing, like I kind of think how it was in EQ1. Just not the other way around. But there has to be ways to cater to both crowds.
Next is something I think has been mentioned (combing through this thread now is hard). Please make class roles beyond the holy trinity of boring tank+heal+dps. Crowd control, pullers, buffers, debuffers, etc. Those in EQ were awesome and something I find sorely lacking in other MMOs, instead relegating those tasks to extra abilities of the holy trinity classes. Along with this, please don't follow the WoW "every class has to have DPS capabilities similar in balance to the others". That was horrid. A Cleric or a Pali should NEVER out DPS a same level Wizard or Rogue. Never.
Finally, full Oculus Rift support? =)
Atm I plan to read over the Kickstarter when it launches, then maybe (but most likely) pledge. If you can confirm these things combined with everything else you've said about Pantheon, I'll pledge before even reading.
