So if this does manage to get funded we will have a spiritual successor to Everquest, Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot all from KS. That does actually make me a bit nostalgic for the old days heh.

How the fuck can McQuaid even command fucking anybody's attention these days? Holy shitballs.

This shit is gonna be Vanguard 2.0 and you will all be trying to explain away 300-500 dollars of your money from the joint bank account you share with your spouse and when the game goes belly up she's going to look you in the eye and go, "Fuck, why couldn't you just be an alcoholic and HIT me, because at least THAT would make sense."
lol that's why you gotta get your spouse hooked too. when my bf first told me he was paying just for the privilege of playing a game, i thought it was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard... and then he sat me down with VG and just let me play for a while... that was all it took haha I was hooked

They don't respect consumers because you people will buy shit, you'll pre-order shit, HELL you will fucking fund shit!

The old maxim "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it." Are your memories so short? Everyone thought Vanguard was the next coming and look what was wrought.

Let me just point out that some of the guys dropping the most money on this game are also the guys who dropped the most money on Ravvenn tit pics.

I'm sure a correlation could be found.

Brad, regarding the mini-map, please try to find a way to tie it to gameplay. Here are some examples.

1 - Sense Heading - You start out very low, with perhaps no sense of direction or enemies on the map. As you use the Sense Heading ability, your sense of direction improves and your sense of surrounding improves, which slowly reveals more enemies or terrain on the mini-map.

2. Ranger Tracking - Obviously the coolest idea. When a Ranger uses tracking, enemies appear on the map. The higher your Tracking skill is, the more and further apart they appear.

3. Cleric Sanctuary/Sentinel. A priest cast a sentinel spell over them that creates an aurora. If that aurora is broken, enemies will appear on the map.

4. True Sight. The map could be used with some spells, maybe you are trying to locate an enemy that is under an illusion or a bad faction. Their color dot will be different on the map if you have the spell buffed on you.

Reason companies don't respect consumers :p
Bro we get it. Your personal crusade to shame people into how they should spend their money is getting real tiresome. Please stop shitting up threads with your broken record PSA's. Thanks dude!

*edit* And for LadyVex, why do you give a shit how people spend their money? Take the first step toward self enlightenment by focusing your anger into a pottery class or karate lessons.

This kickstarter has me sorely disappointed. I'm losing faith in this project fast.

And I have to laugh at the people who were saying "Oh, FTP for the first X levels and the pay for subscription? Rock solid, totally legit, way to go Brad!"

That's pretty much been every subscription MMO's model since WoW. Refer a friend! They get the first 20 levels for free but then have to sub to keep playing! I honestly can't believe how ANY of the information released in this kickstarter could have some of you as enamored with this project as you are. It sounds like he has a million ideas and no direction to go with them. AKA Vanguard.

I'd like to point out that every single person in this thread echoed one fact. "As long as he is just an idea man and not in charge of the business it MIGHT work". So where is the suit because I don't see one.

I have no idea what the direction of this game is Brad. And I don't think I'm alone.

Honestly, I think people just enjoy this as much as they do the game. Sadly, because its the closest thing they (we) have to those good ole days. I'm not talking EQ either but in early MMO's, people top to bottom talked. That's how Fan Fair and Blizzcon came to be. They discovered that we like to be a part of the game beyond logging in. We liked to play armchair developer and give our 2 cents. That really went away once WoW grew beyond a niche group of people. The voices were too much for anyone to listen to and everyone just became a ticket to attend some event. Thus, it brings back a lot of good stuff. Posting with Brad and possibly some devs brings back good memories and honestly, there's really nothing to do. I consider the money i'm going to give part of my hobby. I'll pass on an upcoming game or buying a skin or two on LoL to support Pantheon. My wife and I agree on my hobby budget and so what? I'll get just a much please throwing Brad some money, asking him questions, talking to people on this board as I will anything else I can do in regards to gaming right now.

I'm not doubting you logic, it does seem roles have flipped a bit. We are paying to make the game and paying to play it. Customers are hardly ever served adequately but Brad isn't forcing us to hand over money. To me kickstarter is just a more sophisticated version of a kid knocking on my door to cut my grass for $20 but i'm giving him my money first hoping he cuts it and he does a good job.

Man, one second I'm all in, the next I'm picking my jaw up off the floor 'cause of the stupid shit I am seeing.

This game is so '07; that is what you are literally paying for, right? Nostalgia? Old MMO concepts that you remember from your days of yore?

I can make old arguments because they are old ideas, because that's what you want!

I did read Brad's post - sugar coated ideas with vague concepts, appealing to a very specifically targeted audience, and regurgitating a lot of what he promised in the past. He is practically Peter Molyneux with his promises at this point.

I'm all for a hard MMO game, but do you think it's deliverable by this guy?

As for KS, a lot of the stretch goals seemabhorrentto me because they pertain to an MMO. I realize as a genre and as a method of getting games made we've come a long way, but it feels icky all the same. We're talking immensely nostalgic and baseline things that must reach a certain point to be included. No druids before 1.8mil? Are you shitting me?

The "joint account" jibe was tongue in cheek; I've paid for a lot of ridiculous things in my life, especially if I respect the company, or the product, OR the developer - so to be funding this it isn't so much that that is a ridiculous concept, just that it's deja vu andwe're still doing it. And I say we're, because while I will not fund this, I'm not opposed to the idea of it, just to the execution and the uh, ringleader.

Not only do I not believe that he can deliver what was promised, but I also believe that what most people want just simply isn't doable. I don't mean the game itself, but the way they want to feel about it. Your cherry's been popped brothers, time to move onto greener pastures.

I know this will get funded, but I doubt it will be funded to everyone's satisfaction, and therein will lie the first of many disappointments.

They need to just get rid of the mini map period...

You're right.. Brad can I get a refund? I need the money to throw at all these new mmos that's are using new ideas..

I was talking about his post about VG but it's not in the OP..

As for the mini map and slash.. I thought both were silly too. Not sure why they thought those would be good ideas to put in?? We should be used as a focus group?! What a train wreck that would be but fun lol

Realistic suggestions Brad for selling more kickstarter's realistically (although I still would REALLLYY like a tier that gets rid of radar)....

1.As noted toss in some easily made physical swag. Be it a soundtrack CD with artwork cover , a decent litho signed by you and whoever , and so on. I don't think you realize just how many more of the 300+ tiers you would sell for an item or two like this.

2.On an advertising note , push the Mac/OSX side just because so few do it. If it's seriously launching at the same time or close it's a selling point for the OSX crowd. I use both but game on Windows , but know from the Macrumors forums to others that there is a decent number of folks who eat it up for any devs who design for OSX at the same time and will support you just for that fact. So make sure and toss out a PR email or something to the major Mac sites like that.

Noted and of course. But point being it really has zero business being there in any form , doesn't need tweaked , the idea of comic book stuff like that is much more of a negative than positive so why have it in at all in any phase ? And it's feedback from the get go is all.

No you're right it can change but if he's looking to target a certain audience that stuff isn't needed.. Better to be vocal now then later;-)

If there are any devs here that would like to be labeled as such (as a separate user group) please let me know and I'll flag your account. The only primary difference is that your name will be a different color. This will label your forum account as official.
