TLDR Brad has left game development behind and embarked on an exciting new career in televangelism and riding his sweet, sweet crotchrocket into the California hills.

TLDR, Brad went to the well too many times and his laziness and lack of creativity have ruined his career. he is down to scamming nerds for nickels.

45k seems like a small amount to bother scamming. Better to crowdfund a zombie survival game to 8 digits and then spend the next three years adding hat models and reskinning soda cans.

Besides, didn't Brad make enough off of EQ1 to comfortably spend the rest of his life riding his crotch rocket to renaissance fairs?

I'm gonna go ahead and assume he doesn't have the best sense when it comes to financial matters.
Yeah, when I read his post-mortem of Vanguard, it became really clear that he must be a really terrible manager. It made me question how EQ1 made it out the door and how it had the impact that it did.

As has been said multiple times, Brad had almost nothing to do with EQ1.

Brad McQuaid, interviewed by a moderator on his 'Pantheon' forums, apparently : MMORPG

The past- Brad sees that many people are clamoring about the money he made before and why he is suddenly broke. He elaborated by saying, yes he made a lot of money with Everquest, but he also lost a great deal of money in the stock market in 2007. He went on to say that he has assets worth money, but no cash to his name.
The only people who went broke in 2007 were idiots who weren't diversified enough and/or people who said "Hey, I just lost 65% of my portfolio, time to pull the money out now!"

The Market more than recovered. Again...only idiots lost their entire nest egg. And a lot of people made money by keeping enough cash on hand to buy from the bottom up as any decent investor would.
