Heat generally adds a lot of flavor. If you don't like the flavor of that specific spice, whether it be jalapeno, habaneros, ghost peppers, whatever, then I can understand why you wouldn't enjoy it. For instance, I can't eat guacamole without jalapenos with the seeds in. It's just too bland for me, the jalapenos add just what it needs, and the heat is just a side effect I happen to enjoy.

Basically, I don't like bland food. I like highly seasoned food, and the more heat the better for me. Not sure how Brad feels. I am not Brad.
Pretty much this as well. The more heat, the better it tastes. The heat is a nice side effect that I enjoy. Anyways, its just the taste. To me Ghost chillies taste really good, but they hurt my stomach really bad and the day after is pure pain, but the taste is worth it. I do not eat them often. I eat milder products if there is a specific taste I am looking for like Green Tabasco on cheese pizza.

Thanks for the advice guys. I will still hold off on the habanero or ghost chili sauce.

As a new father, I don't keep up with this thread nearly as much as I probably should. Good advice, but I wanted to share my little guy. Finally... I hope this works...

I've added a guest pass to the photo... Flickr seems pretty terrible for sharing. Ug... Figured it out. I have to extract the .jpg URL outta the HTML embed code, as their links don't give it to you. Stupid!!

Other than his drinking problem, right right?! I saw those huge jugs of formula, and I just cracked up laughing. I didn't even know they existed!

Thank you for the compliment. He's quite the perfect angel! (so far!)

I'm a terrible mom. School ends in less than two weeks and I am dreading summer. I am going to go bananas with them home all day. Going to have to plan out activities every day to keep them entertained. I wonder how many times I can go to the playground near my house before I want to kill myself.

I told my husband I am going to get a job on the weekends so I can get some time off from the kids. He was not impressed.

So, how do you guys keep your kids busy over the summer?

Enroll them in summer activities. Soccer, Baseball....camps of some sort.

I'm not a terrible person though and love being around my children all the time though. (I kid, I kid)

Weekends at relatives are awesome. As a child I would spend a week or two at my grandparents during the summer.

Have two, week long summer camps lined up, a week at one set of Grandparents house and a camping trip with the other set of Grandparents. That is only four weeks out of 13 though. Oh god!

Summer is freaking expensive though, keeping them entertained. Luckily they are still young enough to enjoy spending most every day out in the back yard with the sprinkler.

Anyway, on to the question: For those times when TV is a must have, what would you guys suggest?
Sprout. It's the network designed for her age.

PS - Calliou has no chance in life. His dad is a fucking dipshit.

My first thought would also be camps. Yea it's expensive but you only have to worry about it for a couple of months and then your good for the rest of the year. Not something I need to worry about, my kid is in a year round school.

My son got a very mild cold around 6-8 months, and I remember thinking, "Man, I don't know why people bitch about taking care of sick kids. This shit is easy, frustrating, but easy!" Then he got noro virus (vomiting everything for nearly 24 hours, then everything but symilac [spelling?] after that plus a little diarrhea just to keep things interesting) around 10 months, and I learned the error of my ways. That was 4 very long, hellish days. It didn't help that neither me nor my wife got any sleep because she couldn't sleep while I was taking care of him (to let her sleep), and I didn't sleep but a couple hours at a time because I didn't trust her to not freak out and take him to the ER. I don't know how many times I assured her that he wasn't dangerously dehydrated, just sick, but she was practically manic after day 2. Dealing with her was at least as bad as dealing with a miserable baby who was mostly inconsolable for three days.

Anyway, the moral of the story is don't provoke God by thinking taking care of a sick baby is easy.

My 17 month old daughter had some nasty virus 2 days ago. Projectile vomiting and all that good shit. She's better now, but that was not pleasant.

First of all, you're not a terrible mother. Not at all. Having kids home full time is hard work. I have five, and today was their first day of no school. I made them spend the day getting their rooms completely cleaned up, everything from the school year dealt with. I fortunately have a pool at my disposal, so that occupies them for hours at a time. However, I still find myself desperately trying to come up with things for them to do.

One thing that I've found helpful is to find things we can do together. Gardening, hiking, swimming, crafts, whatever. It's a lot of effort, but it passes time, and it makes for a good summer.

My 2 year old (3 in like a month!) is just fucking crazy. Like ADD on crack. My older girl you can set her up with an activity, like coloring or drawing or working on her letters or whatever, and she will just chill and do it. You can put on a 20 minute program and she will sit there and watch it. My 2 year old doesn't give a fuck. She won't sit still to watch a show, which is kind of good I guess but annoying when I have something I really need to get done. She won't sit and color, she does it for a few minutes then she is up and getting into shit. We have a lot of trouble getting her to do school shit, too. Like she can count to 20 or so, I've heard her do it when playing. And she can identify all the main colors and letters and knows the sounds. But if you sit her down and try to go through it with her like a lesson, half the time (or more) she rebels and just won't do it. Every number becomes 5 and every color is yellow and every letter is B. It is really frustrating and makes planning activities for the kids difficult. I am trying to work on some more ideas for her. I am thinking that more hands on stuff like gardening or whatever will be good.

So I put my son to bed in his crib last night, which still has the bottom raised to its highest level. The side facing out slides up and down, and has a lot of tension on it, certainly more than my son can manage to push down against. Even with the fact that he's taught himself how to stand if he's got something to grab onto. Or so I thought. 15 minutes after putting him to bed I hear a big thump, think oh shit, and run in to find he's on the floor, and the side gate is down. Apparently he stood up, pushed the gate down, and climbed over, falling about 4 feet to the carpet. Probably landing on his head, though I found no marks or anything anywhere on him. He cried for a minute but was otherwise fine.

My son can make me feel like a failure like nothing else ever has.
