It fucking FLOORS me how badly they fuck over melee in this game too. Again, I am at a non-act boss that does thing that make it impossible to stay close to him. The one that has a ton of phases where it is up on pillars and too far away to melee?

Not sure if you are talking about one I just fought. The chimera chiyula thing? It goes on stone pillars to attack with fire and ice. I was pissed at first too, because I was like wtf all these phases I cant hit it. But I went in to attack it once when it was on a pillar thinking maybe I could still hit it, ended up finding out you can destroy the pillars when its on them, knocking it down and stunning it for a bit. Made the fight 1000x easier after I found that out.

Any recommendations on a melee class to try that does not suck? Going to finish the Map Quest on Witch but kinda want to try something else now for a bit. I did start a monk but got owned by Devourer so rage quit. :p
I love my warrior, at the end of act 2 and I can stand toe to toe with the boss mobs...takes forever to kill them but I sure as hell aint dying (Yet)

I think they stay the same. I got this at lvl 5 for my Merc. If you do things like decrease your reload time even more and use Fragementation Rounds or something you have the potential to just machine gun the single shot loads with alarming regularity. So they have to balance it around something. If you have this using the standard round that doesn't reload as often is a more of a disadvantage.

Doesn't this make it so basically only a small set of uniques are actually useful in build plans then?

I am having a ton of fun on my warrior but everyone here shits on them. By Act 3 normal I really felt like a lot of the frustrations went away. I never played PoE1 so maybe it's ignorance as to what a melee class should feel like.

I did almost quit on the colossus boss, probably died 50 times to it before I beat it... I think then you are so reliant on stunning enemies and you can't really stun that thing so its frustrating. But by the end of Act 3 it's less dodge roll, swing once, dodge roll, swing once and more face tanking and being able to hit 3 or 4 times obviously dodging some of the one shot mechanics. Any time I felt like I couldn't progress I just went and tried to craft a new weapon using whatever I was buying from vendors as I leveled.

Maybe it'll change once I start maps, I dont know but right now its a lot of fun. Starting out try using staff instead of 2H mace a lot of people say thats a better way to level.

Why though? +1 and 50+ spirit ones are cheap, and there's no way that another +1 skill beats 2 more arsonists. Hell, I don't even think that +2 with 30 spirit beats a +1 with 55 spirit, for one extra minion. There's a reason why the minion/fire mastery support gems are the last thing people add if/when they finally get a 6 link; it's the least value upgrade out of them all. I spent my extra amulet money on getting a ton of ES on it along with some decent resists.


For now, you don't. They need to implement the PoE1 thing where you can send a lootfilter directly to your account to be downloaded instead of having to place it in the My Docs directory yourself.

Yeah, not being able to replace is pretty annoying. I've had to pass over so many good ES chests while browsing on trade because dumbasses have ruined them with resists instead of +40% ES.
I have no idea whats better. I got 13 Arsonists now and the +minion buffs Raging Spirits/Arsonists/Dog/Pain and Bone offering.

If thats worth another Arsonists I dunno. I one shot everything allready. Bosses rarely last more than 5 seconds unless it's a big one with Phases. I'm doing T13 right now and now they last 10 seconds instead.

The one that has a ton of phases where it is up on pillars and too far away to melee? The one that constantly spams frozen ground when he is there that you have to leave or just get degen'ed to death? The one that you cannot stun reliably because he leaves the ground and goes into phases that allow him to recover his stun bar? Who the fuck thinks this is good game design?
I just fought this boss in Cruel. Ranged can't hit him in the air or I think on the pillars either.

Destroy the pillars. It stuns the boss. What the fuck man.

Maybe it was easier as ranged but if it landed on me it was one shot death - only happened once though - I found a safe zone in the top right corner to run to for the air phases.

In a Zizaran interview before launch they talked about trade site being insta buy out paid with a gold fee (not sure if it was gold to list or buy or both). But it never got implemented, at least we got currency exchange.

It's the same gulf of viable vs actually good that you get in POE1. Where uniques like Mageblood are utilitarian and always desired and work on most builds.

They stated that they want to support building around the unique effects so that's at least something.

I found that out too, but here is the thing: there is no indication that the pillars can be interacted with. Everything else in the game, to this point, either has a health bar or a name when highlighted when you can interact with it. It does basically trivialize him, but that is bad design when there is no way to know that it is possible. I actually have the same visual problems with Magic and Rare creatures; why did they go away from the obvious blue and yellow coloring to tell them apart? Was it because it didn't look as aesthetically pleasing? From a gameplay standpoint, these things make it play worse even if it looks better.

Oh, and don't get me started on how badly they have fucked up the ability to SEE THE SHIT THAT IS ON THE GROUND KILLING YOU. It is a step back from POE 1 at this point.

I get that this is EA and they could make changes that would make this all go away; but their track record around melee specifically is so bad that I now think they have no solutions and just put it in the game because they have to. This game is balanced around ranged and ranged only.

I have personally looted 4 uniques so far, and outside of using it as a twink item for only a couple of early levels, they are trash.

I would rather have a yellow drop vs a unique, as I have not seen a single unique that has been linked that makes me want it.

They are probably worse that Last Epochs set items, that are completely useless.

That's unfortunate because the number of build defining traits are so low, there's only a few weird ones to build around. Losing uniques as a piece of that means it's basically just a dog chasing its tail on pure scaling, which is rather boring.
