Reddit is being a bunch of whiny bitches about this, I hope GGG doesn't give them one bit of reprieve. Map sustain was essentially zero effort in 3.9. And unless you were a brain dead retard, it was easy to sustain the few leagues previous.

I agree that redditors are whiners but disagree with the change. I actually had fun not having to worry about sustain but still selling, trading, and just enjoying the mapping. Maybe it will be the same even after the change because of how you just level up the whole Atlas and maps are all red by that time anyways; but I do not understand why they wouldn't just leave it the fuck alone if it resulted in everyone having more fun.

I think even without the awakening bonus, sustain will be good enough as long as you like, roll your maps. Not even the crazy shit, just roll them, in Metamorph you could just run white maps and still sustain which is a bit weird.

I dislike the fact the awakening bonus feels completely worthless with the change and that unless they force me to get some for 36 challenges(which they probably will), there's basically no reason to bother.

Then again I don't know if I'm playing yet, if I find something else to play before the start of the league I'll probably skip it, if I have nothing else to do though will probably play AW.

It degrades existing content. I still did Delve cities because I love Delve, but I surely didn't get excited for the potential of T16 map drops. I saw multiple anecdotes of people saying they skipped Delve cities because they were no longer worth the risk. Temples were similarly affected but to a lesser degree. I also think there was some bugginess going on there. Or some mechanics I just didn't understand. Map rooms dropping zero maps.

I liked map sustain pre 3.9. It felt rewarding. You were rewarded for choosing the correct map to Elder, applying sextants, chisels, alchs, and vaal orbs. I understand many people don't like doing all that just to run T16 maps, that's a fair criticism. But just within the concept of "work in reward out", map sustain pre 3.9 felt just about right.

Meh. They need to make that content better without tying sustain to it. Map sustain was ok in 3.7-3.8. 3.9 was fine too. Map sustain being piss easy doesn’t make people quit early. It was power creep that did that. Not sure they fixed that.

Map sustain will be fine though.

Has GGG explicitly stated that they are against implementing any matchmaking or type of social support for console? Maybe it doesn’t exist on PC either? What gives?
I can’t inspect other peoples gear, I can’t chat with them outside of slowly loading the entire Sony menus or typing in their annoying gamer tag on my phone if they even have their settings public, I can’t highlight and just invite a random person. I mean, fuck man. I’m all for playing solo and supporting that 100%, but these are the types of games I occasionally would like to have a duo partner or even just a rando to chill with and clear shit with at times. It gets kind of boring playing a giant online game by myself almost literally the entire time. The trading market system is absolute dogshit too and I’m not even at endgame yet and trying to navigate the more complex or expensive stuff yet.

Good luck grouping on a console, this game can quickly turn to dogshit in group on a high end pc build. I can't even imagine what a 6 man would be like on a console.

Even just playing with one other person would be cool, and especially in the early / leveling stages that are a bit boring. I can’t imagine stacking a group with all the shit already clusterfucked on the screen tbh.

Duoing is pretty good for the most part, but yeah, if you're in a 6 man and running some high density map forget it on a console.

PoE isn't the most social of games. You could consider joining a guild. I played solo the last 18months and this was my first league with a guild and although I don't really group that much I still do the odd duos and some 5 way emblems, sulphite runs that type of thing.

So tell me how im wrong here. They keep showing these unique gems you socket into the tree to open up new clusters of passives, but from the little they showed so far, they all seem like trash. Who the fuck would invest 5-10 passive points into bullshit like they are showing in their tweets?

I may bring in an ARPG noobie for the next league. Should be interesting. I have never grouped in this game in the many years I have played.

You ever have that friend that just won't stop tinkering with something - car, house modifications, whatever hobby - no matter how good it gets? That is how I feel about GGG. They just can't leave well enough alone.

It is ABUNDANTLY clear that GGG does NOT support easy map acquisition and sustain. Look how quickly they flushed Harbinger down the toilet, and you will find a lot of people who loved that league, especially the non-traders, because it was the first time a lot of them were able to breeze into high red maps and stay there. I think this league was second only to Harbinger for map sustain, so you KNOW they are going to nerf that in some way, blatantly or otherwise.

I only had one league (and I cannot remember which one - may have been Syndicate actually) where I got fucked on map drop RNG and quit the league super early in frustration. Whatever league that was I recall running every single T9 and T10 map I had and not getting a +1 drop. The thought of running T8 maps at level 92 pushed me straight out the door.

I guess that kind of sums up the way I play each league in PoE now - if I hit any kind of frustration wall I quit and come back the next league. Metamorph was a lot of fun, but I was getting shitty unbalanced Shaper/Elder map drops that it pissed me off so I noped out.

Absolute min maxers / people who just want to experiment. Normies like me probably would not bother.

The gems they are showcasing are like single affix magic gems don't forget. They can be rare with multiple affixes that make more nodes in their offshoot cluster in to notable and stuff, so what they are presenting is just the bare minimum.

I guess maybe I'll paint a target on myself with this, but I kinda disagree with the map sustain. I played up through mid Jan or so, and I still could not get past tier 13 (most 12's and 13's had maybe 1 in my inventory). Granted I do not have the unholy amount of play time that some seem to, but I was still playing 16 hours a week and sometimes more. That was with me alching every single map above tier 5 or so.

Do you not get passive points with the gems?

Thought that was the whole point, a bunch of extra points and new stuff

No the whole point is a bunch of extra passives that don't exist. You still have to spend points for them, otherwise shit would be utterly broken and everyone would design builds to grab 3-6 of the nodes because it's literally 20 free passive points per node.

Someone asked Bex on reddit to showcase some rare gems, and she responded saying that she would.

You can see some of them on the official site/the videos. Not many but a fair amount.

It SEEMS like the prefixes are notables and sockets and suffixes are stats added to passives, seeing as I don't think there's been a node with more than 2 notable and the rares they've shown with increased passives have 2 stats too. The rare jewels honestly seem very worth it, you can get pretty solid amounts of stats per travelling point and you get access to new notables that can be pretty strong depending on build.
