This looks fun. Haven't played PoE at all yet. Just start as Witch and equip a Bow ? Is the Explosive Arrow skill gem most easily available by playing a Ranger to Act 3 (espeically for someone who hasn't played yet) ? (roughly what lv is Act 3 btw ?)

Thanks.
Act1 is about up to lvl 14, Act2 to lvl 26, Act3 to lvl 32 or so, in normal. I'd trade for explosive arrow, or just send me a tell I'll give you one they're worth jackshit and I have a few anyway, that's on hardcore though. Well I guess I can suicide a newb to bring it to softcore. Witches do get explosive arrow as a quest reward actually just very late so not very fun. Explo arrow is 19 though so first 19levels you're gonna use Poison Arrow, which you also don't get as a reward so you'd need that, but it's an early reward for rangers and shadows.

Biggest hurdle of doing this build as a new player is you kinda want Quill Rain, which is a unique bow. It's not that expensive, but it's not free either. If you play softcore though I can just give you mine since I don't really need it anymore. You'll also need to buy the supports, concentrated and elemental proliferation are drops only iirc(well concentrated might be a reward but not for witch). All in all, it's not really a "new player" build. You can play it fine though it's just gonna take a bit of effort. Also you could check the marauder forums for the marauder blood magic version, which I think is less gear dependant and easier to play, and in the end probably stronger. When I redo the char I'll probably go this way too, or at least change how I built this witch to have a lot more health.

When you run Fellshrine, do you just follow the path, or do you make the effort to clear the majority of the zone? I just swapped a bunch of gems and I'm looking to grind them up, but was wondering how you usually run the zone.

Both ways work, there's not much of a difference to be honest, but if you follow the road you'll never end up backtracking and shit(other than when kiting), which can happen when running around randomly. Makes very little difference in the end but groups tend to follow the road since it's easier to stay together this way.

Thanks for the advice.

I am playing softcore (first char and just learning the game) and rolled a Ranger for now to get the skill Gems I need. I'm on EU though. Not sure about you ?

There's no EU/US split, it's all mixed, only thing is whoever created the instance will make it on their platform, so everyone else who enters that instance(groups) will also be on that same platform. Can play with whoever and chats are shared for everyone, only split is hardcore/softcore.

Cool. How/when can I hook up with you and pick up that Quill Rain ? Not sure how you add friends or find my account name. Playing characters Flight or Morgganna.

I really like how GGG responds to "Overpowered" mechanics. Nerfing boss perma-stunning by simply adding diminishing returns to the effectiveness of Stun Threshold Reduction past 75%. Stunlock is still very viable against regular and even rare mobs and might even still be possible against bosses at the highest of gear/character levels when you can do insane amounts of damage. It makes sense that a level 100 character might be able to stun lock a boss, but not a level 60 character like what was happening with Kripps build.

And they finally made minions untargetable.

are you saying that sarcastically?

I like soft caps on most things. Diminishing returns. And find it ok, that you can stun lock regular stuff. can do that with freeze already.
Do players have these reduction in stun threshold? could be a problem in pvp leagues.

No I wasn't being sarcastic at all. I think it's a good approach.

I like that when they re-evaluate something they feel is OP they take a moderate "nerf" approach instead of the usual knee-jerk nerf it to uselessness approach so many companies take.

I'm playing on normal, at lvl70 starting to try and farm maps. I'm not faster than the average ninja looter so I'm avoiding pubs like the plague. It would be nice to get 2 or 3 others to run maps with. Feel free to add me. Character is Venijk in game.

Well they nerfed it for some reason for open beta, he used to be like he is now but then for OB he was only casting like 1spark or some shit, thought it was intended nerf. I went back to avoiding him now, no point in risking it. It's fairly safe with a skeleton totem and a long range spell but anything else I'd consider not worth doing.

Been doing the chaos recipe for a couple of days, works out alright. I do have a bunch of stash tabs but really all I'm using atm is 2 so it's not that bad and got me a bunch of chaos already. The thing though is I'm already vendoring 2H/chests again because I got too many of these, just keep the helms/boots/gloves but really the liiter is amulet/rings/belt for this recipe. I dumped like 20 alchs on all the white max roll lvl 59-61 jewelry I got from felshrine farming so I got a bunch of belts in advance but I think it'd be fairly shitty otherwise.

Not so bad when you have some alchs to invest though, like I had 9 40health leather belts, alched them all, got 1 good belt, 2 belt "upgrades" to similar stuff I had, like health+1resist but higher rolls so I sold them to other players for 1alch each, 1 belt with very good stats that didn't interest me so I sold it for a chaos+1alch and rest was trash that I couldn't possibly sell so they went into the chaos recipe for recycling. It's a good way to recycle those but I feel if you're not at a point where you can alch belts/necks/rings without an issue, then the recipe is fairly worthless. I mean you might as well save like 2 sets of rares and fill those, if you have spare stash space, but I know before I bought another bunch of them I was almost full.

Also be doing another trick, chancing onyx. I figure maybe I get lucky and get an astramentis, jackpot. What I do is I grab one onyx then chance it. If I get a rare, I sell it, use it or throw it into the chaos recipe. If I don't get a rare, I "scour" it but without actually using a scouring cause that's expensive. Instead I vendor it along with 1 of each color of skill gem. That gives an onyx. Now you need a few of each color and you swap them until you find a combination that gives a +20all stats onyx back(could just get any type of onyx but I figure if I chance a rare one that has good stats I want it to be 20). Then chance it again, rinse and repeat. I had a bunch of trash gems saved up, went through all of them, gonna need to get more now, probably will do by running Brutus on a bunch of multi log accounts, always gets a bunch of shitty gems for hillock/glyph wall.

Can do that for a lot less skill gems with a Sapphire ring, but you need only blues. You can chance a Dream Fragment which is worth like an exalted or so. Don't think you can reroll gold rings otherwise that'd be good too for Andvarius.

Anyway, this game is pretty cool. Lots of stuff to do ^^.

Newb question for anyone willing to answer.

I have seen/heard a lot of people talk/post about totems. i have not really played since before those got added to the game.

Are totems a skill you gain from the passive tree or or they a gem you get from a quest/mob drop? And if they are gems are they all the same or their a variety of totem gems?

Thanks for anyone that answers.

To expound on that...

There are several kinds of totems.
First skill totems. Rejuv, shockware, fire, decoy totem. These are outright skills by themselves. Similar to fire trap, bear trap. as you may have experience with traps.

But then, there is also two SUPPORT GEMs. Spell totem, and attack totem.
These will turn any spell into a totem. so that casting the spell, instead of casting said spell it will summon at totem, which will start casting the spell. over and over for the totems duration.
And attack totem does the same for attacks.

Spell totem was alot overpowered a few patches ago. and it still a bit OP.. (just needs a faster casting support attached to it as well). Generally when people talk about totems, its spell totem they are referring to.
