The way I've seen Kripp do it with auras is swap out BM gems to get 3 40% ones up on his mana, but the fixed costs ones on his life instead. Is that going to get fixed or is it reasonable to build with that in mind?

He doesn't swap out BM gems. What he does he uses blood magic on his main spell, so he doesn't use the passive. That lets him cast his auras on mana as usual, with reduced mana. What he does before that is equip the Covenant which gives Blood Magic temporarily, so he casts Grace on his health at normal cost(using a blood magic support would increase the cost by 100%), then remove Covenant to get his mana back and cast the rest. I wouldn't count on that trick to stay, but it might. It's pointless if you can run all your auras on mana though but it's also pointless if you don't use blood magic(and subsequently lifeleech or loh) on your main skill, which eats supports.

So far Incinerate seems pretty shitty. Mostly, the mana cost seems retarded. With lower mana it could be interesting but at the current cost stacking supports make it obnoxiously expensive.

No big surprise here that Incinerate sucks. It's pretty hard to look at any spell and be interested when Freezing Pulse is the best skill in the game by a large margin still.

that settles it, I am rolling a melee with the biggest weapon I can find to whirlwind.

Other than that, played some this morning and the game felt a bit smoother - especially the nameplates of mobs (unsure if they changed anything) but it was quite cool

Don't know if Cyclone will work with 2H though, I asked a lot of questions on the skill but no dev answered, there's a ton of unknowns about the skill, like what weapons can it use, how does it scale, can it be interupted(manually or by enemies stuns), does it benefit from DW, is it an AoE etc. Without knowing this it's hard to tell what's going to be a good Cyclone build I find.

Anyone have any advice for a noob build (just to clear the initial 3 acts on normal difficulty or whatever?) Rolled a Shadow and dual wielding melee, but it isn't very good. I'm all about fotm/noob builds. Help!

Look on the forums for a Lightning Arrow build. Marauder variation is probably the easiest and tankiest but might be a bit hard to pull off early on, just about any class can make a variation.

With that said to only clear on normal, any build is fine.

Googling Lightning Arrow build now, cheers.

Fun game, truth be told.

I've found Kripp's new site to be pretty useful for planning out builds

http://www.exilepro.com/builds

Basically I've picked out a few builds that looked like fun to me to play, and in reading all of their build analysis they give you a good breakdown of how you should be planning your skill tree out for each difficulty as well as what gems to focus on, and the overal general playstyle of the build during each level range/difficulty. A lot of builds play pretty differently early on than they do late, but it really pays off to have an overall plan that is at least functional at each difficulty level, even if it is really meant to be most ideal at end-game.

Some of them really aren't feasable to build on ust one playthrough though, as they'll be using gem combos end-game that you just don't have access too. For instance on the shadow pulse build, I don't see myself having 4 or 5 blood magic gems to use in the end-game build. At least not without hundreds of hours of farming. But it's a good starting point, and at least keeps you from attempting a build that ends up being total shit in higher difficulties(I did that a lot in beta)

Don't understand why they had to fuck with the voice-overs, they were great before. Now they're worse. I swear, after the tenth time my ranger bitched at me about her mana I wanted to shoot someone. Couple of the npcs are worse now too. I hope they don't fuck with the Shadow, he's got some of the best, funny shit too. Or the way Bestel groans out "Tarkleigh...!"

If it ain't broke, don't fucking fix it!

how relevant is chaos resist/immunity in maps? Debating whether or not I want to bother with the CI thing or just go mix of life and ES.

Highly relevant. Few mobs do chaos damage, but the ones that do are very dangerous. Plus there is a map affix which deals constant chaos damage.

Doesn't make CI worth it unless you have very good gear. Easier to get chaos resist on a couple of pieces than get high ES on every pieces(while still getting good resists).

I wouldn't recommend a CI build to anyone unless you absolutely know what you're doing with it, why you're taking it and how you're gonna use it. There's multiple sub mechanics of CI that make it hard to play in maps(for example the fact that every single lightning mob is going to shock you for 3-6secs on crits) so it's not an obvious choice at all. This is even more true with the new unique robe that makes Chaos not go through ES anymore. Tbh I'd say it's probably one of the strongest unique in the game now, it dominates CI for a lot of purposes, if you could get good CI gear you can get good chaos resist gear and retaining your health lets you do 2 major things, reserve auras on health and benefit from low health stuff which easily compensates for the CI advantages.

Can Ctrl+Click to buy items from vendors now. That was my number 1 issue with this game lol. Now if they lengthen the loot timer I really have no more complaints.

i have a strange thing happening to me. no idea if it's a bug or simply a invisible stat, but when i get a passive dmg % mod skill, my dps doesnt increase. Are the % mods from skills invisible ?

Some skills DPS don't calculate properly, like elemental hit, explo arrow, others you won't see a difference with a small amount due to damage efficiency like firestorm or flame totem. How much and on what skills?

im talking about stuff like "12% increase physical dmg"

it wont show any actual difference in stats (DPS or such) in the character window. So i was wondering if its effect was just invisible, or i'm doing something wrong

They're calculated in the DPS assuming you do use physical dmg(and if it's a melee physical node that you do use a melee attack).

I've been playing PoE since beta back in October last year off and on, but I've always been a mostly solo player, except playing with a couple close friends occasionally. I'm trying to currently set up a build that is going to require gems that I don't have access to on my Shadow, they are quest reward for Templars, or Marauders, or whatever. Would it be quicker to just make a new character and level them up through Cruel and part of merciless to get the gems I need, or is gem trading/buying a fairly active market? I need 3 or 4 blood magic gems and they are never offered to a Shadow at any point, but I've never used the trade channels at all, I really don't even know where to begin looking to purchase some. Is there a forum or anything set up for buying/selling/trading? Is the market even active at all for quest reward gems or just the drop-only gems?(I'll eventually want greater multi-projectile too)

Also, is there 1 piece of currency that is kind of the pricing standard for trades? As in I can compare item A vs item B that they would each be worth a certain amount of X currency(whether it's chaos orbs, map chisels, or whatever)
