On gems, just try the trade chat or you can usehttp://poetools.com/market/orhttp://poe.xyz.is/to parse the forum posts. That's mostly useful for items though, gems aren't that rare especially quest reward gems like blood magic, might take a bit to find all the ones you need though.

As for currency, I'd say the "1gold" currency is alchemy orbs. Start from 1alch orb to calculate everything else. A chaos is worth 1.5 to 2 alch, a regal is worth 3 alch, a divine is worth about 10alch and an exalted about 20alchs. Oh and a GCP about 5-6. Prices aren't static however some people will ask for more or less, they might also ask for chaos instead at a rate that's higher than the alch to chaos(basically at 1:2 alch/chaos, which is possible to trade at but generally a bit annoying, chaos are slightly less than that, however in trades with chaos they tend to be rounded at that price). There's also "weird" stuff with conversions at time, for example an exalted was worth 5GCP last time I checked, but you can get a GCP for 6alch, yet good luck finding 30alchs for an exalted, you probably won't get more than 22-24.

On the lower end, fusings tend to be .75 to 1 alch, alts are generally 8-10 to alchs and 6-8 to fusings, chances are 4 to 1 alch and everything else only has a value to people who care about them. Like in theory you can trade 100-120wisdom for an alch, but you need to find someone who actually care about wisdoms.

This sitehttp://www.poeex.info/can be used as a reference, but it's not absolute nor necessarily accurate.http://hardcore.poeex.info/for the HC version.

Oh also I should add for Blood Magic gems, I'd pay a chaos. Maybe a chaos and an alch but I'm not sure. Check for prices by yourself but if you wanna buy some from me I'll sell them at 2alchs(I have no alchs left and tons of chaos). I have 2 or 3. Pyros_Eien

That's what's great about it. I'm lvl 70 and still barely have an understanding of the game systems. I haven't even gotten my first exalted orb. It's like an incredibly deeper, complex version of diablo 2. Like the eve of diablo clones.

Edit: Nvm patch notes are out so it's official and stuff.

This patch will be deployed in the early afternoon tomorrow, NZ time. That's about 14 hours away from when I post this.

Version 0.10.3
Content:

Added a new Dexterity/Strength skill - Cyclone: Initiates a spinning series of attacks as you travel to a target location.
Added two new cosmetic microtransaction effects: Sawblade Cyclone and Blue Cyclone.
Added four new Unique items, three of which were designed by our Diamond supporters. One of the Diamond Uniques is an end-game Map.
Added doors to the Vaal/Pyramid tileset.
Continued to incrementally improve the art, effects and environments and audio.

Features:

The line for each stat on the character panel now alternates colours so that they're easier to read.
The display of life bars for party members can now display reserved life values.
While on the ground, gems with quality are now marked "Superior".
You now don't get disconnected for linking too many items in chat too fast. You will still be muted for spamming them.
The information that is put on the clipboard when you hover over and item and press Ctrl+C now includes socket information and itemlevel.

Balance Changes:

Increased the damage of Incinerate by 12.5%.
Added Cyclone (which is level 24) to the quest rewards for the Marauder, Duelist and Templar (at the Normal difficulty "Lost in Love" quest), the Shadow (Cruel difficulty Hillock quest) and the Ranger (Cruel difficulty Brutus quest).
There are now four Energy Shield passives behind Chaos Inoculation. There are three 8% additional Energy Shield nodes and a new notable (Infused Shield), which adds a 20% multiplicative Energy Shield bonus.
Life Gain on Hit is now scaled by the Damage Effectiveness of a skill.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a bug where it was possible for Increased Item Quantity/Rarity supports to stack too many times under some conditions.
Fixed a bug where you would not be told why you couldn't drop items with microtransaction effects on their gems.
Restored the PvP arena that uses the Ship Graveyard tileset, now that bugs with it are fixed.
Renamed the one-handed Ezomyte Axe to Butcher Axe, because the name clashed with another item.
Fixed a bug where you can't vote in a bandit fight if you portal out and back in again.
Fixed problems with the PvP announcer voice occuring at the same time as death screams.
Fixed some discrepancies between Nessa's text and her audio.
Fixed a problem with the visibility of sewer map nodes in higher difficulties.
When you get the Emperor's Road quest, the map is now updated correctly in all difficulties.
Fixed a bug where Hargan might not give you the Act Three sewer quest.
Reduced the size of the Bandit and Blackguard blood.

Interesting about the new CI stuff, can't wait to see that in action. Another 20% node seems to make it quite a bit more appealing at least, but I'm not sure if it is enough. Honestly, I don't see why CI should get more shock/burning/freeze debuffs compared to a normal build. I would say that you give up all armor/evasion in favor of just energy shield, which already regens pretty sketchily. No reason to completely butcher them :E

Well immunity to chaos resist comes with a direct benefit of being able to run blood rage for free, which is 15%cast/attackspeed via frenzy charges(potentially more if you were to take the nodes or the reward). It's also good in general. Freezing and Stuns aren't too much of an issue either, only means you need to invest an exalted/exalted and a half into acquiring a chayula and a dream fragment, but then it's only shocks you have to care about(burning is same duration for everyone, it's always 4secs). Granted shocks can be very dangerous still so you have to be careful and also fuck them for not having a flask mod that dispels it, that alone would fix a lot of CI issues. Don't lose all armor/evasion either, it's not acro, you can still use Grace to get some pretty good evasion and Granites to get good armor.

Also note the new node is going to be like the alpha one before open beta, it's 20% MORE ES(they say it's multiplicative). Meaning it takes you entire ES, which with good gear is like 6-7k, and adds 20% of that so 1200-1400. That's a pretty big deal and also makes CI more viable earlier for people who don't have as good gear. They're back to that but I guess CI was kinda crappy after the nerfs and the new unique definitely pushes them to make CI more interesting.

The Life gain on hit change is interesting, even though it does hurt melees quite a bit too. Also not sure if it's affected by chain dmg reduction from their wording, Chain is only "less damage" not damage effectiveness so it shouldn't, which means it's just as much of a nerf for melees than it is for ranged, which makes little sense to me.

so i just got my best map so far, is like an item quant +71% mod. Does bringing in more people also multiplicatively stack with the item quant bonus on these maps?

CI buff will be a great boost to level 60-70ish CI, and a solid boost to level 90 CI. Still, CI pools in the absolute endgame are already so large that it's not really the main issue. At level 60-70 you'll typically have a 200-400 ES chest. At 90+ you might have almost 1000 ES on your chest alone, which can bring you close to 10k ES modified before the buff.

CI's absolute endgame issue is more related to effect mechanics which scale off your HP (Shock, Freeze, Stun), inability to defend against sustained physical damage, and inability to use your HP pool for reserving auras and activating low HP buffs.

Oh, and complete inability to do any map with Blood Magic on it.

What does everyone think of the current rare / "chaos orb" vendor recipies? I used to sell rare sets for a chaos, but now am more confused in terms of how to get the most value - doing rare set selloffs, or just dumping all rares to vendors individually.

I guess I'm just in a different place with my gaming. I appreciate complexity, but if by level 70 i am not pretty damn good at the game systems I'm not going to enjoy the game.

With a family and work, I can't devote 10 hours a day to reading everything trying to figure it all out.

Oh well I'll wait till diablo 3 is 10 bucks.

I've been giving this yet another try today (like the third) and i'm warming up to it a bit.Wish the graphics looked a bit better and the controls were as responsive as Diablo (one of the few things they didnt screw up with D3). I only played the beach area each time before setting it aside for weeks or longer, and that area doesnt seem too randomized. Will that change later with bigger and more random areas (like D2) on or are levels mostly fixed and the same size (like in D3, didnt care for that). Finally, whats this "map" business mentioned above? Does the game drop maps for random levels like Torchlight? How does this compare to Torchlight as far as long term play goes (didnt stick with TL2 for long, it's nice but just didnt click with me)?

Maps are item drops similar to other types of items. They have random properties like any other items, except they are used to transport you/your party to a new instance. The map dictates what the geography/tileset is, how large it is, any bonus to item drops, restrictions/bonus to players, characteristics and quantity of monsters, and other things I am probably forgetting.

You can improve the maps in the way you can improve other items. I.E., you can make a grey map into magic, rare, and I believe, unique quality as well. If, for example, you have a rare/yellow map, you can use a Chaos Orb on it to randomize the properties and get something to your liking.

I believe the first maps are level 66 items. I am assuming they begin dropping from any creature that can drop an item of that level -- which means that they are pretty rare for the average player to obtain through non-map instances due to the highest level non-map instance being lvl 63.

I can't speak to a TL2 comparison.

It's somewhat similar to TL2, but more complex, you get to roll the stats instead of just buying the maps on a vendor, at the same time they're random drops so you can run out of maps if you're not careful on how you roll them. The properties are also more complex and a rare map will have a ton of properties(like a rare item up to 6) so they tend to be more varied.

Maps start dropping in act1 merciless, it's not lvl based. Well it might be but it's lower than the lvl of maps, you can get maps in The Ledge in merciless which is like 54 iirc. Got most of my maps in felshrine which is 59.

There's bugs with the patch. One when loading into docks, another when using 2H sword+cyclone. Possibly something else.

I thought the controls were clunky as shit on my first character too. This is mostly due to animations forcing you to stand still, and early on you have no attack/cast speed, so it just feels really sluggish. Once you get some attack/cast speed those animations get sped up a lot and the game feels much smoother.

I'm fine with it. I only did minimal testing after they changed it so I don't know how to get the up to 3x regal they supposedly added, but I did figure out that you need exactly ilvl 60 or better rares to get 1 chaos orb, if you have even one item that is ilvl 59 or lower then you get 1 chance orb and some alt shards (aka fucking worthless) Not sure what they were thinking with that kind of jump since you could actually make more in alt shards by just selling the items individually at that point. Didn't bother me too much though because I don't farm anything that drops items below ilvl 60 at this point anyway.
