Welcome to Pathfinder! Spell damage has never been good. Fireball/Fire Snake are good for quickly mopping up large groups of weak enemies but the role of casters is pretty much to buff the party pre-encounter and then cast CC/summons during combat.
I don't know how Kingmaker works but casting buffs during combat usually isn't a good idea because taking a round to give an ally +1 to hit isn't great when you can just cast all your buffs for free before combat.
again, i'm only lvl 3. i played a ton of watered down 3.5 computer games (baldur's gate, etc) and i've been playing a pen and paper 5e game for 2 years, so i'm no stranger to the genre, but i've never had more than a passing exposure to pathfinder, so my experience is somewhat limited...
the time on debuffs seem to be extremely short. ray of enfeeblement IF IT HITS will only last for 6 seconds. at my level, that's a single attack. that just seems... the damage output of magic is terrible, and the CC/debuff aspect seems incredibly limited. i'm fine with a spell having no effect it it's saved against, that's part and parcel of the system. but my wizard only has 2 spells slots, using 1, having it stick, but only lasting a single round? seems like an incredibly poor use of a limited resource.
don't get me wrong, i'm REALLY enjoying the game, but i was also really looking forward to the arcane classes actually being effective.
Wizard/sorc (and useless bard) would be a lot better if they hadn't removed Grease from the spell list. I used Color Spray before I gave up on my wizard and it was resisted by every single thing I hit. Grease sits there for 1 min/level and makes them save against it every round if they try to move through it.
Having done more reading about Pathfinder now, I'd probably use a magus if I was dead set on playing an arcane class. Being able to refresh your spells sounds really strong, plus they can actually do a lot of damage with shocking grasp.
Also, V1.0.3 is up and the recruiting bug is finally fixed.
Point blank shot, rapid shot, etc but really with the throw anything+ darts and other thrownables turn you into a metal chucking machine between throwing bombs. Assuming it works like PnP Pathfinder.Yeah, I never tried making my wizard a nuker (it was conjuration focused and I hadn't pick a single blast spell). Still didn't like it much, and since the actual summoner class isn't in this game I decided I was better off with an inquisitor or druid for a summoner. Sacred Huntsmaster just sounds a lot more fun/interesting in general anyway. I'll grab a npc wizard for debuff bitch duty.
Still not sure how to setup my inq as a bowman though.
Any stat minimums? Don't want to run into a situation like with melee where you forget to take 13 int and end up kicking yourself because you need Combat Expertise.
I considered buying this game yesterday, but the number of game breaking bugs is too damn high.
Maybe in a few months when it's working I'll revisit it. Until then, back to Baldur's Gate as others have mentioned.
No wonder I have so much weight all the time, jfcGame seems to have quite a lot of crippling bugs currently;
- if you go into your inventory and you double click on your main hand weapon, the weapon weight will be duped and ghost weight will be added to your character
-after talking to Valerie and concluding her personal quest (Ch. 2) you will start experiencing error code crashes coming into or leaving the capital.
- if you leave thechapter 3 becomes impossible to finishcity while its invaded, after defeating the boss, but before talking to everyone on the map about it,
Longer list here; contains some spoilers.
