Well PS2 never really tried to address the cheater problem and that doomed the game on PC.

No saying you are doing something while firing all the CS that would be ones hunting down the cheaters is doing the opposite of what you claimed to be doing.

Allowing cheater outfits like Dasanfall to become a cancer on the game had a huge impact on me finally quitting the game.

Yep they allowed the most blatant cheater outfits to become one of there premier non official PS2 sites.
The 2 top most mysterious things I've found in PS2 is how in my 1500+ hours of playtime, I generally never saw cheaters (teleport/speedhack/aimbot etc). Of course in the maybe 6 hours when a buddy of mine starts playing, they pop out like daises causing him to rage quit.

The other is how any vehicle I drive, while in a swarm of other vehicles, always seems to get singled out for lock-ons or AA.

For the first time since launch I've canceled my sub and I've pulled my registration for SOE live. This game was the main reason I was going and I have no faith in them to turn it around at this point. Being instagibbed by MAXES and Libs just isn't fun anymore for a infantry player like myself.

THIS! I'm in a swarm of mossies, almost all the way back, with stealth so I don't show up on the mini map and boom, 2 reavers shoot past the other 10 mossies and AA missile lock me to death, every gotdamn time.

As for hackers, there's a good amount of passive hackers out there, once you know what to look for. I hit BR100 and have what I consider decent Situational Awareness, but some of these guys shoot before you even round corners (no radar up). But yeah, I can't remember the last time I saw a blatant teleporting/speed hacker.

Hackers will hack, its inevitable, but honestly in this game do they make a difference? in a 48 vs 48 zergathon, 2-4 people hacking really swaying the battle? Nahh.

Honestly this game has too much other faults and this is why people quit. Not because of hackers.

Large sway in balance since game released
Air vs ground balance see saw
cross faction weapon balance
steep learning curve for noobs
no meta game other than take base, rinse, and repeat

Honestly by the time youre like lv40-50 there is nothing more than buddies in your org that keep people playing for the most part. By then you have pretty much all of your infantry shit and a few of your favorite vehicles certed up. And nothing really more to strive for. Then its doing the same shit over and over again. Capping a base, locking them down in the spawn room, and moving to the next target until you are sick of it by nights end.

Sometimes a good even fight will present itself and its fun for a while, but those seem to be rare than the norm.

There are hackers but it's mostly shitty players crying hacks as in every single fucking game since Quake.

I've seen a DA guy hack once, months ago, in the early morning... but for the most part they are just good players.

And I say that as a TR guy who fucking hates DA, and DA2 and all the rest.

AC!

Who's your TR guy?
Fiasco. BR 89.
Running with VG. Salojin runs a tight fucking squad. Very fun. Lots of hot drops on enemy AMS and really effective 1-2 squad stuff. Constant redeploys, very fast. If you play TR, join his squad when it's open... Or any VG one. Excellent teamwork and coordinated tactics.

As far as weapons go... If you haven't learned to use the TMG 50... Learn it! It's a fucking monster at range. 5 round bursts aiming a midsection net massive amounts of head shots.

I'm also a beast with dual pounders in a lockdown max but that's when I'm soloing.

Yup Salojin is awesome. I usually run with Salojin, BGRL, 903, or FRZA when I play TR.

It might be really common, I'm so terrible and my connection so bad I couldn't say, but back when I counterstriked alot, tons of people were using msx security. You could tell watching them via the player cameras once you were out.

For that, mostly they just had an aim correction thing that if your reticle was near a player it would snap to a headshot, flashbang immunity, and some sort of way to see through walls. It was all subtle enough that you wouldn't notice it unless you spent some time watching them.

The best giveaway was when you could see them tracking a player approaching a corner that they shouldn't be able to see.

That style of hacking gives an advantage, but they are still beatable if you sneak up on them.

After playing engineer 99% of the time, I've been trying other playstyles. I maxxed out the infil motion sensor (not the dart), and man that thing is OP. Even shows what direction people are facing. I don't like the SMG cheese style of play, so I run around with the SOAS-20 or whatever the battlerifle is called. TIP: Buy a darklight for your pistol, there seems to be a lot of griefing stalker cloak(the perma invis one) people. The funniest one was a guy stealthed crouching behind the vehicle terminal just before the base capped, and he'd pop out and drop a bouncing betty, got like 20 kills from the zerg.

What's the deal with implants? The same 4 keep dropping, I've combined hundreds, and just get higher tiers of the same ones. I'm trying to get the one that blocks motion sensors, wonder if it's only Tier3.

I guess I've never understood what people get out of using hacks. I don't see how it could be fun to auto-win with no skill required at all?

Hrm when I played PS2 I always felt the game was amazingly cheater free. Relatively speaking of course. I'm sure SOME existed but it was nothing at all like counterstrike games where every few minutes there might be a dude zipping around at 10x normal move speed ruining everyone's fun. As for why they do it, who fucking knows. Hell, playing GTA3 ages ago I had fun for about 20 minutes with invulnerability cheat on in single player laughing at FBI cars endlessly crashing into mine, till I turned it off and played the 'real game'. No clue why someone would want to do that on a live server against actual players, angsty douchebaggery maybe?

I played on Waterson and would hear this or that about a Connery or Mattherson clan and go roll an alt to see what the fuss was. The accusations were always bullshit, tough dudes but beatable, which is how top guys should be. There is a high skill ceiling for stuff in PS2. Every good shot gets called out from time to time but when a lib is flying backward or upside down and you get DOMED by a single belly gun most are too prideful to laugh it off, and realize that gunner or pilot simply knows how to do shit the other guy doesn't. Then come the tears...especially when the pilot of the lib ... was also the gunner!
