Yeah I'll be waiting for an all black version if that's not available at launch. That thing would stick out like a sore thumb in my entertainment center.

game list and release dates for the PS5 game lineup makes the launch really, really, really weak so far. I doubt xbox will be a lot better though. I guess the huge third party games this fall will be Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassins Creed Valhalla, but I really wonder how much "better" next gen will play those games vs ps4/xb1 (putting aside PC).

Spider-Man Miles Morales is already confirmed a standalone expac similar to Uncharted Lost Legacy or Infamous First Light, which were both great and i'm sure spidey will be too but both games are in the 6-10 hour range compared to 30 hour game for OG Spidey, Uncharted 4, etc.

My guess is the dev kits are in initial testing phase right now, and probably only going to first party for testing purposes.

As average game development times grow, the crappier launch titles will be. If a game takes three years to make, you have to start working on it halfway through the last console lifespan - good luck having anything like finalized hardware stats at that point.

That said, at least PS4 had Killzone for traditional genres. PS5 just has Sackboy (which started out as a PS4 title, IIRC), a standalone expansion for a PS4 game in Miles, and a couple of small team projects of indeterminate sizes?

(In retrospect, Xbox One had Forza and then a couple of third party exclusives (Dead Rising 3, Ryse), so this sounds par for the course.

Its more that if you are in crunch time do you optimize for 90% of your launch sales - ps4/xb1 - or not. Remember, cyberpunk 2077 releases Sept 17th so thats still months before ps5/xb2. They literally have to count the hours at this point before the game releases and try to get as much done before then.

Most games ship with hundreds of thousands of bugs, you can't ever catch them all, you just have to decide which ones are acceptable and which ones are (literally) game breaking. Thats one of the reasons why stadia is failing so hard, Google won't really pay up extra for their platform and just expects devs to spend their own money/time and recoup on sales, which is a losing cycle. Contrast that with like Epic Game Store, which will pay out millions of dollars to get games (sometimes exclusively) on their store, so devs have a huge incentive to make it work.

I thought the same thing. While I kinda do like the design, I hate the white outer shell. If the PS5 was all black, I don't think people would hate it as much.

The digital version looks great. The asymmetrical regular version looks terrible.
