I clocked 700m on an egg today while riding the tram and another 1000m for riding the bus for around 40 minutes

I'm not so in to this game, but I'm playing it with my kids, and we're walking a boatload of miles every day looking for stuff. It's really fun to do this as a group. I'm a n00b, just made level 9, but my kids are having a riot with this.

Nothing I said has anything to do with Niantic's policies. From the perspective of doing long term damage to the game, botting is far worse than manually controlled emulation. Manually controlled emulators do get a significant advantage over regular players, but it's essentially the equivalent of having an unlimited travel budget. If you move locations faster than you could have actually traveled there, you will get banned sooner or later. Any regular non-rural player can assemble a lineup that can defeat all but the most ridiculously fortified gyms with patience and dust conservation, one emulating player isn't going to change that. Botting, on the other hand, will completely fuck things up when they expand battling and add trading. Months of botting a backup account or two at the Ueno park Dratinikarp Nest, Santa Monica Pier, La Brea Tar Pits, or whatever other hotspot nests are discovered/rotate around, will result in a botters main account having a ridiculous lineup of top tier Pokemon, and/or will completely destroy the trading economy.

Also, there is nothing Niantic can do more severe than a permanent account ban, but that doesn't mean that every offense that merits a permanent ban is equally bad. A guy who rape/torture/murders 20 people is demonstrably worse than a hitman who cleanly kills 20 people, but they're both going to get the same death penalty. We can't give the torture killer a mega-ultra-combo death penalty to punish him for how much worse his crime was.

Nox isn't just about travelling continent to continent, it's about being able to play from your sofa with unlimited battery. The need to rest and recharge are two big factors that limit legit players

As I said on the old board, it was fairly easy to grind to 20 using nox, you don't even have to leave your hometown providing it's big enough to have multiple stops. (Don't ban me tucky!!!)

Anyway,, it seems niantic only implemented 12 hour soft bans, not sure why so lenient.

It also seems that catching too many pokemon or hitting too many stops in a certain time period initiates a longer period soft ban. I made a new bot account that got hit with the ban at level 21

Tyen, no matter how hard you try to argue a false equivalence, nobody will care about your pokemon. You botted a very bottable game, got a high level trainer and a bunch of pokemon. Nobody cares.
