They need to host their shit on Amazon.

Werner Vogels on Twitter:

DDOS is much harder on a wide network of distributed servers.
You would think Google's infrastructure would be able to handle this easily. Niantic is just a spun off Google company. I'm confused why Google can't handle the load.

Man in New Zealand quits his job to play Pokemon Go full-time

Tom Currie worked as a barista and bartender at a seaside restaurant on the Hibiscus Coast near Auckland, but has decided to jack that in to find digital creatures on his phone instead.

He says he's relying on friends and family to help out but admits his parents are "a little bit baffled".

"When I resigned, I didn't tell my manager I was going out into the world to hunt Pokemon," he told Newsbeat.

"But after my story got picked up I gave him a courtesy call to update him just in case the media contacted him.

Google glass (rip) would have been a smash success if it was released simultaneously as Pokemon Go and was compatible,

When did Pokemon first come out /become popular in the west? Am wondering what game i was obsessed with at the time, because I know nothing about it and always assumed it was just some kids game. Have people irl who know me and are floored when I tell them I'm not playing it.
I guess it's fun going out and catching these things? But then what do u do with them? Is this like a card game? Help me out rerolled my rep as the community nerd is at stake here

I haven't played a single pokemon game before this, but they were basically RPGs. You play someone who goes and catches them. The pokemon take the place of attacks/spells/equipment that you would find in other RPGs. You power up and evolve them better versions, that you then use when you fight other people's pokemon. For example, an eevee is a relatively common pokemon, but when you evolve it it has 3 versions (electric- jolteon, fire - flareon, water - vaporeon) it can turn into randomly (though there is now a trick to guarantee a certain one). You level up it's CP (combat power) and use it to fight others. Some pokemon, such as snorlax, don't have evolutions though. They just have one form, but you can still power up it's CP and he has unique attributes to him as well.

I missed it too, Gameboy game during the mmo golden era(or well maybe a bit before, but I was probably still playing Diablo). I played it a few years later on emulator cause even back then the gameboy could be emulated easily, but shit was atrociously bland and boring to me, so never bothered. Also I probably was too old already at the time. I kinda get it now, why it appeals to people, the collection aspect and the "build the best pokemon lineup possible" kind of thing with hundreds of combinations, but the rest of the game looks so fucking terrible I can't be bothered. It's like a really bad RPG with a lot of customization for your "characters".

That said I think here the phenomenom isn't just because it's pokemon, it seems a lot of people are playing Go even though they've never played, or in some cases heard of Pokemon(or maybe just the TV show for kids).

Yeah the core Pokemon series is an RPG and for all that it seems like a kids kinda game, no 8 year old is ever going to beat one of the Gen 5 games, which was the last time I played one and one generation behind the current set. Shit was hard enough that even I had trouble at points, and I'm a pretty hardcore RPG player. It's all the spinoffs like Snap, Stadium, Mystery Dungeon, etc, that are the true kids games.

So I'm about to hit 21, mainly through using lucky eggs and evolving the cheap pokemon.

Should I now be using candies to level up my highest CP pokemon?
