4 years old isn't too young to start. Especially on a Switch because the joycons are small. My son started in on the Ps4 controller about that time. He's a natural though. Figured out how to hit the buttons he needed to hit. He's 6 now and holds the controller normally.

Got my son a switch for his 4th birthday. He loves it. He can't play Super Mario Bros Delux or Mario Odyssey like an older kid could, but he still loves it.
