A plate and 8 pins?
That's gonna be a long hard road to recovery, and it will always be a weaker hand than it was before. Sounds like you fucking crushed it.
Sorry for the bad news, but physical therapy is going to be an absolute must. Knees, wrists, ankles, and shoulers are all complex joints that don't heal terribly well or all that quickly. But of the four, wrist is the least bad. So you've got that going for you.
Basically, don't slouch on the PT. Obviously you'll have arthritis in that wrist... but once the casts come off be vigilant about the exercises. If they don't give you any, make sure to ask for some.
I broke my ankle in my 20's. It will go out on me sometimes. I'll be walking and all of a sudden that ankle won't support weight. I never had it set though. At the time I didn't even realize I broke it, only in retrospect.
But, the upshot is that you might actually come out of it 90% with the PT... and obviously, arthritis.
