I have an Arris SB6141 cable modem and an ASUS RT-AC68U router in my living room. All this works very well. Now my internet provider has increased my speed from 200Mbps to 600Mbps for less money and they recommend I upgrade my modem to take advantage of the increased speed. I have purchased an Arris SB8200 which should work. I'm not very knowledgeable about these things so I'm asking, do I also need to upgrade my router? I hope not, but if so, any recommendations? Our primary internet usage is streaming all our TV from Britbox or Acorn and it's been working so far.

You should be fine with your current router if it currently meets your needs for features and reliability. Its rated bandwidths are at least double what your provider delivers.

if they had increased to 1GB or 2GB then perhaps but 600 isnt enough to warrant anything else beyond what you've mentioned.

when an ISP reccomends that you "upgrade" your router, often times its just an attempt to sell, or more likely lease you one of their routers.

I have my AT&T modem on Passthrough mode so my router can handle everything. No idea if that would simplify things for you.
