Plug the router in to the modem in the garage, let it handle DHCP there. Buy another router/wireless access point or whatever you want and set it up to broadcast wifi from any of the drops in your house. You can plug as many wireless broadcasters in to your network as you want, you just need one actual "router" to handle DHCP while the rest either don't come with it (overpriced and underfeatured access points) or you can just disable it in their interface.

So I have an asus ac66u which is great but all of a sudden I can not access my plex server from outside my network. Looks like after some firmware updates ports are no longer forwarding I have tried all sorts of troubleshooting but no luck. Was wondering if any gurus on here could give me advice or have this router and it is still forwarding fine?

It's far more likely that your public IP changed than your router magically resetting like that.

Ok, if that is the issue any advice on how to fix it? Do I need to set static ip? I though plex could accommodate ip Changes.

Those fuckers bought all dynamic dns services and removed all free options. fuck them (as a long time leecher of no-ip.org).

You shouldn't have any problems setting up that ubiquity equipment. Basic setup is like next next next done.

Yea you likely don't get a choice in having a static IP or not from your cable company, so use the Plex thing otherwise you have to change your shit whenever they decide to change your IP.

I have a plex.tv account when I go in to try and get it to connect to the Internet it shows my internal ip connected to an external ip and then a red x before interner. I'll take another look at it tonight though

Is your internal IP static for port forwarding? That could be the issue, not your external IP.

No I used to set it to static but haven't in a while. Am going to try and telnet into it tonight but I can try to set it static too. Never used to matter even when I would vpn. I'm wondering if the new ssl did something to me.

I had plex problems every once in awhile until I realized that my internal IP was changing and causing problems. Ever since I've set an internal static IP for my plex server, and set up port forwarding its working fine.

So, this is sort of a vague question.. I remember reading an article within the last few months talking about a new router technology targeted specifically for gamers. They had some graphs showing how they had managed to keep ping at nearly perfect levels no matter what other traffic was happening on the network, and without limiting the bandwidth of the other users either. ex: Someone else could be downloading a ton of files, effectively maxing out the bandwidth, and the gamer was still getting 35-40 ping. It seemed like magic until I read the rest of the article and they explained how they balanced the traffic out.

I looked back a few pages in case I had found it here, but no luck. Does anyone know what I'm referring to? My friend is looking to buy a new router, and I wanted to show him the article.

Set a static IP, no luck... Are there any alternatives to Plex that are any good?

You should be able to reserve any IP address you want for any mac address you want within your router settings. I have my printer on a specific address inside my home network.

Plex issue sounds like a firewall or virus scan problem. Check those and create exceptions in the firewall for windows or whatever you're using for plex. Restart plex server (close it down and log in again).

I'd bet that fixes the problem.

Picked up a qnap umm tk251 over the weekend putting in 6TB of storage(2TB installed ATM) for my media server, running plex and am burning all my DVD's and blurays to mkv format. I am using a combo of anydvdhd and
handbrake--- anydvd to remove the protection handbrake to make the mkv. Figuring ~750meg per DVD and 2gig per bluray average , I figure I will get all my DVD's and blurays installed and have about 3TB left. Running over WiFi my initial test movie(DVD) played essentially perfectly via plex media server and plex android app. About to test a bluray burn now before bed(I will play about 20 minutes)
