If anyone is looking for a cheap android phone for their wife or kids, or even themselves. Its worth looking into the LG Optimus Extreme, picked one up for my wife at walmart for just $85. Comes with ICS, despite it only having a 800mhz, its noticeably faster than her old phone and I turned on my GS:Fascinate with a 1ghz and it was noticeably faster than the samsung. Seems like the cheap android phones have come a long way and are actually pretty damn decent, just lack the power. I am even planning on getting one to replace my Fascinate until August when I get my bonus at work and use a little of that to buy either the s4 or the new note. Reason why I am lugging around this piece of shit still is because I was grandfathered into the unlimited shit with verizon, only way to upgrade my phone without losing it was if I bought the phone at full price. Put the s2 and note 1 off knowing the next line of phones would be way better.

If the dumb bitch had been using iCloud, all her pictures would be safely in the cloud. No SD card needed.
This. People who don't back up their shit deserve their fate.

ROM files are called ROM files because they are used to program ROM chips, or more appropriately in this case, EEPROMs (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory), nothing more complicated than that.

Getting my HTC One tomorrow after work, can't wait. My Galaxy Nexus has been a lagging piece of shit for the last few months.

Sorry but the only reason companies do not include sd slots is so they can fuck you in the ass with their higher priced higher capacity models.
I'd wage the cellular networks also put pressure on the device manufacturers and Google. Nothing like cloud storage with metered data plans.

Verizon introducing its own cloud storage space, a huge 500mb! Also, you can't uninstall the app.
So glad I discovered the ability to disable all of the those Verizon apps from the default App manager in my GS3.

I posted a few pages back about a Facebook Home-esque notification system coming to Paranoid Android, an Android ROM. Well, it appears that the PA team has included an alpha version of the notification system in their newest update, and it's pretty damn impressive.

Looking forward to running this on my Nexus 4.

2 reasons.

Firstly, the notification shade is turned off in some apps, namely games and video apps.

So, for example, if I get a notification of a new email while using an app that disable the notification shade, I need to exit the app I was using, pull down the shade, choose gmail, read the email, push the middle onscreen button to return to the home screen (the back button doesn't usually work in these situations), and then I need to reopen the app I was using. This is particularly annoying when using whatsapp, skype, and other IM programs.

Secondly, this new method allows apps to run on top of other apps, which is pretty useful. So, when you get a notification, you can tap the chathead thingy and the app that sent the notification will open on top of the app that is already running. If you're done with the app that generated the notification, you can just tap somewhere outside of that app and you'll go back to the app you were using before. There'll be no need to mess around with the onscreen buttons/multitasking menu.

The PA devs have said that the chatheads should be a lot more customisable on release, meaning it should be possible to make them invisible or something when there are no notifications. They also said that the 'on top' method of loading apps should work with the notification shade too, which is useful.

TLDR; It's just better for multitasking overall. At least, it will be for me. Your mileage may vary.

I heard on a podcast yesterday that the Galaxy S4 only has 9 GB of storage left with all the unremovable samsung apps? Good thing it has that SD card slot.

If you come across a link to that Alpha build, can you post it? I'm watching the XDA thread, but it's such a clusterfuck that it's hard to see anything useful posted there.

Sure. The PA dev team said that they're trying to get it out before Google IO, so it should, hopefully, hit sometime in the next few weeks.

That's what I use PIE for. I can't ever use my phone without PIE nowadays.

I haven't looked around a ton, but this is the first really poor review of the HTC One that I have found. Anyone that has the phone want to rebut some of his claims?

I haven't had any issues with my HTC One feeling slippery in my hands, so I disagree there. I have hard time believing that anything "just came off" a unibody aluminum phone. My experience with the phone it's been solid as a rock, the thing feels solid enough that you could club somebody with it like it was a butt of a gun and it wouldn't show a scratch. His whining about the version of android it ships with laughable, and there really isn't a non google phone that doesn't take a long time to get a android update.

Fairly sure that guy is a Samsung shill. Having had my HTC One for 3 days now, I didn't agree with any of his negative issues. It doesn't feel slippery to me, the construction is solid. The camera was figured out and used by my six year old within a couple minutes without my saying anything (it's no different than any other camera). The menus are different than the touchwiz I'm used to with my sgs2, but not difficult to understand. He's being deliberately obtuse. This is an amazing device.

The menu is easily fixed by removing the combined social media widget from the home screen and replacing it with whatever you like. I haven't bothered yet but probably will do so. Loving the phone so far.

If you're worried about dropping it, then get a case. I found my SGS2 far more slippery with the plastic cover.

I got an HTC One this week. First new phone for me in three years I think, so it's a massive upgrade for me. I'm really liking it so far. I bought a case with it at the AT&T store, an Incipio one.

I'm no expert on phones these days, but it's really great. The sound is amazing on this thing, really ridiculous. Sounds better than my tablet.
