United will finish better, very simply because it would be near impossible to do otherwise with someone who knows what he is doing in charge of the club.
Here were some terrible results:
Home form: West Brom (L), Southampton (D), Everton (L), Newcastle (L), Tottenham (L), Fulham (D), Sunderland (L).
Away: Cardiff [D], Stoke [L], Southampton [D].

Then they only managed to take a criminal 6 points from the top 6 clubs, I don't see any repeat of losing twice again to Everton, Liverpool whilst hopefully able to take something out of City/Chelsea this year.

Tidying up the home form will mean United can easily be in the mix up at the top.
This.

Last year was as big a disaster as it could have been short of RVP getting hurt or Rooney going on a drunken bender. They are a strong team and have a great coach who doesn't bring the Everton/Rooney baggage with him. Conservatively I'd pick them for 3rd or 4th. Couple years down the road they'll be back on top. No one is expecting them to treble anytime soon except the nuts.

Edit: yes I meant a serious injury. One where he doesn't still score 21 goals for us. Dick

Well RvP did get hurt, maybe you meant him being out for the whole year.

As I've already said I'm going to reserve judgement until the games start counting. I will say Moyes must look at ManU's first 2 months of games this season and cry himself to sleep at night. Everton at home should be the first tough game on October 6th and ManC away is the first away game vs. a top 6 team which isn't until November.

Edit: And I'm pretty sure Rooney did go on a bender

Yeah my team is through!

http://cyprus-mail.com/2014/08/07/er...om-young-boys/

The draw today for the play-off qualifying round should be interesting, theres a couple big bad teams in there like Tottenham and Inter, hoping we can avoid them.

But I really wonder sometimes if the person who did the naming of things for this club was an english speaker with a dirty sense of humor. First off the team is called the Young Boys, the area of town the stadium is in is called Wankdorf, and at the game you can get a Young Boys sausage to eat. I really couldn't make this up if I tried.

My favorite was when we played against Tottenham in the Champions League qualifiers a couple years ago (and won 3-2! before getting crushed 4-0 in London) and there's a gas station across the street from the stadium with a Wankdorf sign. There was a line about 100 meters long of Tottenham fans to take their picture with the sign, was really funny to see.

Anyways, hope we can qualify for the group stages of the Europa League and maybe draw a fun team like Liverpool in our group, who was in our group a couple years ago, was really cool to see my favorite English team beat up on my favorite Swiss team, the game in Bern was 5-3 for Liverpool, tons of action.

The draw's biggest news story is Celtic might go through despite getting beaten 6-1 by Legia Warszaw in the qualifiers. Legia brought on a player with 3 minutes to go in the second leg who was supposed to be out with suspension. Now, the thing is hehadsat out the required number of games, but because he wasn't registered with the squad in those games UEFA doesn't count it. ATM it looks like Legia are disqualified and Celtic are going through on a walkover.

The disqualification would be defensible (if harsh), except there's an ugly precedent which makes UEFA look bad: In 2010, Debrecen subbed in a non-eligible in overtime against Litex Lovech, but were only given a fine, because UEFA said he was only used in overtime and the game was already decided. Well, 6-1 with 3 minutes to go apparently doesn't meet those criteria.

Rules are rules, Legia fucked up, but this looks like a massive overreaction that I doubt would happen to a bigger club.

Celtic is officially in for Champions League. I find it pretty funny as the same thing happened to them against Sion a couple years back, and they got through on a technicality that time too. Crushing blow for the Polish team, thats a shitload of money to lose if they were to go on and qualify for the group stages. They are appealing, and I think they have a chance at least of winning the appeal, as Elerion said, Debrecen got away with it before and it's a very similar situation. I guess Debrecen wasn't playing against a big team like Celitc though.

City were shit but that's a great way to start the season. Hope arsenal manage another signing or two. Thought chambers was excellent and Sanchez will only improve. Love weekends in the fall!

I don't think even City's B team wanted to be there, what a weird game. Will keep the Gooner hype train running for a few more weeks I guess, where are our new RR Arsenal fans to celebrate this momentous occasion?

If Coutinho can be consistent this year then he's going to take the EPL by storm. Turning into one of the all time great transfer robberies courtesy of Inter....

Edit: Fucking love Klopp

Edit 2: Coutinho flick for our first goal today

Absolutely awesome performance today. Made a great team like Dortmund look very average. The fourth goal had some fantastic passing leading up to it. Feel bad for Mitch in their goal, he's a great keeper normally

You'd have to think ManC is going to have to sell someone now as Mangala didn't cost 32m pounds. His actual cost is closer to 55m pounds as the 32m figure quoted was just for Porto's 55% ownership stake and EPL rules don't allow for 3rd party ownership. That's assuming a standard agent fee and without any sign-on fee :O Unless FFP rules are going to be proven to be more toothless than initially thought the cost of just this one player would seem to exceed all their current restrictions on net spend and salary.

This combined with the fees for David Luiz and Vermalean actually makes Lovren's fee look comically low in comparison. Just 5 more days, well 6 for us LFC fans

?43 million, not ?55. But it's still crazy that the transfer record for a defender gets broken twice in a transfer window.

Do you have a source for the other 45% only costing 11m pounds? Here's the best breakdown I've found so far:

I was looking at another Porto transfer yesterday (Hulk) and Porto confirmed that any deductions from the transfer fee are done on the buyers end. Which includes the 5% solidarity contributions and agents fees. Otherwise they must notify the market of doing so (which in this case they haven?t).

So with this in mind, it means Mangala's transfer looks a little like this:-
Third Party Ownership = 43.33% (23.3m euros)
Porto Ownership = 56.67% (30.5m euros)
Deductions
Solidarity contribution = 5% (2.69m euros)
Agent Fee = 8.28m euros (was 15.3% in Hulk?s instance, or 8m euros so I have used 15% again)

Using the above, I calculate Mangala's transfer to have cost City 64.79m euros. Or ?56m. + his signing on fee.

I think you're going to have to try to out score Real Madrid this year as I can't see how you'll keep that front 6 from scoring. Made it look easy today though Sevilla is no where as good as they were last year with all their player losses.

I'd be happily surprised if he amounted to much. He admittedly has pretty limited technical skills. His athleticism is without question, just I don't think he can really dribble by anybody or offer anything other than pace at the moment.
