Yeah, the marshall story is gay. No way I am buying his superheroic setup powers or having friends in every single possible situation he would need them in. Or the DA just saying "sure, whatever, go rip some teeth out of gangbangers." I hope he fucking got hep c from drinking that beer.
With so much internal drama, I don't see why Sutter feels that he needs some big external threat. Especially when we all know where this is headed.

Sons of Anarchy is the new Weeds. I don't care for the plot, the main characters, or really, anyone outside of the charismatic supporting characters. With Weeds, it was Doug and Andy, with SoA, it's Tiggy and Chibbs.

The biggest travesty so far this season is dragging out Clay and Tiggy getting killed. Just fucking do it and get it over with. These are the most forgiving pussy gangsters ever.
I haven't thought it's been nearly as bad as you guys, but reading you guys shoot it to shit my opinion is changing. I guess my standards are ruined because I watched Dexter up until its end.

i don't mean to sound rude, you probably are just lucky. Those of us who had to wait for the pitifully abduction season to be over, week after week, ugh. I mean you probably were able to fast forward. And with that season, they killed ballsac, i mean in SOA you get ZERO story from a prospect, but they were developing the ballsac character, i guess he was a "redshirt", then of course that lead to the... let's kill more prospects for fun... whooo! hey juice, you seem like a cool guy, why don't we let you kill a prospect now.
now the only prospect is smelly phil? or whatever they call him?
look i'm not saying we should stick to side stories, but... there are VERY few interesting characters, or they're stories are so played out episode to episode it gets silly.
I mean what's the storyline now with jax? throughout the series he get's with hot women and pornstars and all of a sudden he has a mommy complex and falls for this MILF or madam and get's all emo when robocop get's to "hit that". wtf kind of story is that? that's like a tv soap storyline.
and with bobby it's just silly, we see him riding around getting ppl to splinter off, that's CRAZY, no one in their right mind would ever splinter off "just because". and if they splintered off they'd have to do it and get permission from Jax, cuz that's the way it works, No matter how these individual charters run or mess up, Jax is the super head godfather, they'd never do anything that drastic just b/c Bobby wanted to do something.
I believe he was tossed off the show because he was a crazy dug addict. Like a month later he fell off some old ladies roof trying to rob her and died IRL.

He actually left the show ahead of schedule by his own choice. It did turn out later he was having drug problems, but Sutter was surprised by his departure.
The marshall story is just dumb. SoA is becoming a rehash of The Shield, reusing many of the same plot points. He's just a recycled Stahl from the earlier seasons, who was herself just a recycled Kavanaugh from season 5 of The Shield. He falls back on the dirty cop with superpowers routine way too often.

sutter said once that halfsac leaving changed a whole part of the show as he was supposed to become a full member then a bigger part of the show. the cop taking Unser's job was basically killed because he took to long fiddling with his contract.
which wasn't planned, but don't think it really mattered to the overall story, but then again wouldn't had the black cop show up.
agree than other than Filthy Phil all the others are red shirts. i am pretty sure it all has to do with costs. RDM talked about it during the later seasons of BSG. union has hard rules about if an actor speaks, he gets bumped up and if he has lines in x number of shows gets another bump up. sure Hunnam's salary is eating up most of the budget now.
i miss the Mayans, 9'er and normal biker fun.

Filthy Phil actually got his cut. The only prospect we see is Ratboy, but they talk about other prospects.
This is my main complaint with the show. They built a world, and threw it in the fucking trash so they can do this stupid Marshall shit, or play "Nero saves the day", or all of the sudden there is this cop running an entire town and they have never had dealings with him, oh and of course the stupid Irish shit is STILL going on. Sutter needs an editor.

Yeah this new Marshall is basically just a rehash of Deadwood preacher dude from a year or two back. I am super tired of idiosyncratic, win-at-all-costs Feds.

Problem is Sutter being on its own writing path. In The Shield you could easily identify the seasons when Sutter showrunned because character development was sketchy as hell, and villains were bad cliches. Sutter, as he said on some interviews, cares about situations, he doesn't really give a damn about character development, he cares about characters changing their views / opinions whenever the show has to go forward. In paper it's not a bad workplay, but in Sons of Anarchy it's like watching a 90' anime when as soon as the good guys kills the main villain, another villain, more evil and powerful, comes next.
That ponytail drug addict Fed is much over the top : he basically is on a absolute vengeance path, has no ethics, no morales, doesn't really care about Law or anything, he's just there to fuck things up, drama wise. That DA powers him up because villain with a badge is iconic in Sutter's universe, but season wise he's just a red shirt, he'll end up bad. Sons of Anarchy isn't anymore a show about life in a motorcyle club, it's a Power Rangers show without the silly jumpsuits, where everything is grey-right or grey-wrong. Together, Sutter and Shawn Ryan did a good job, but alone they're just rehashing Hamlet like it's sitcom pop drama.

Is it safe to say most of us have checked out? really doesn't seem like any of us are happy with SOA and just watch it, cuz well it's 5 years of knowing these characters, so why not. Aside from Terriers (the previous show crazy fed guy was on), i believe the shield and soa should have ended 2 seasons ago, too long in the tooth. The shield should have ended with lem being bombed and thats it,... no resolution. SOA should have ended when opie shot stahl in the back of the head.
but yea i agree, they built up charming, but instead they wanna go play in robocop's town instead.
the stupid irish/ira dirtbags are only around to keep the clay storyline going. WTF i really don't care if hellboy lives, i'd rather would have seen him shanked 3 episodes ago, he's just not an engrossing character, neither is gemma, all she is, is a vindictive old lady babysitter. If tara were smart she'd just let gemma babysit the kids all day, tie her up from doing whatever weird shit of the day gemma does for fun and tara could control her that way. It's not like tara would ever have to worry about their safety, gemma would throw every MC member in a fire to save her grandkids, and there's an old ex cop around as well.
they bring out lyla for 1 minute and just bloody her up. I actually want to see how she is struggling with 1 baby and 2 tag a long kids.
that to me would be way more interesting than seeing old man ex cop dying of cancer being a babysitter for 10minutes.

Yeah, I'm not invested at all in this shit. The one plotline I find really compelling, outside of Bobby setting up the Nomads, is Tara setting up the custody/divorce stuff. Everything else this season I could give a shit about. I think people like the internal club stuff or the relationships between clubs (Grim Bastards, etc), and people tend to dislike all this external bullshit. I want to see Jax trying to rebuild in the face of all the devastation they have had, not Iranian terrorists and new brothels and robocop and whoever the fuck the new black guy is who is apparently the California Illuminati. At some point it is hard to giev a shit.
