Gaelan has never liked Jax from day one and they have been fighting and shit for years. They fought a few times last year and Gaelan shot up all their bikes.
He wants Jax gone and dead, and wants things to continue with Clay.

I hadn't really thought about it but the whole gun running business seems like bullshit to me. Is there really a big market for illegal machine guns in northern California? Plenty of people getting shot in NorCal but they don't use full auto anything nor is there any reason that they should. I just have my doubts that this "business" even exists.

Well it's Sutter's universe, when realism / coherence is hidden under the rug. We're talking about high profile people (bikers with bicyles, leather vests and shit) sellling full auto weapons all day long to California practical gangs : the latinos, the blacks, the nazis, etc. Oh and they have business with IRA too, because you know, these guys are terrorists, it should stay under the radar. It wouldn't be very risky to sell IRA full auto guns to California gangs, especially when you're clearly identifiable (wearing MC colors) by anyone with a mammal brain.
Also about RICO, when you have houses and shit and you don't have official revenues (because they can't all work for the garage), under RICO the IRS would already have stripped them of their comfy houses, cars and even bicyles. Under RICO if you can't prove any revenue and if you can't prove you buy X with legit money, everything you own goes right into fed govt pockets. That's why RICO is feared, because you get hard prison time AND they go after the money. But heh, it's Sons of Anarchy, not The Sopranos or The Wire, this is not a crime drama, it's Hamlet with leather and guns.

think they have enough legit income to cover what they own. no one really seems to be living large. only gemma/clay have a nice house. plus most seem to also have side money coming in, but just don't talk about it. juice had his pot shop. hell bobby still might be doing Elvis gigs. unless Tara had a billion dollars in student loans, should have been bring home well over $100k.
That end game manipulation, covering every angle, all aspects covered from start to end. Tara is manipulative to the level deserving of praise. She's a total bitch, but you have to respect the effort.

Whoever okayed Sutter making the episodes 90 minutes should be fired. These are really getting hard to sit through. I think there has literally been a musical montage in every fucking episode this season and one episode had two of them. Self indulgent.
