Failure to ID is the keystone to soverign arguments, you TECHNICALLY don't have to...
... technically not /the/ cop - but authorities - so they have to detain you and then during booking etc. is where /technically/ they have to ID you - and CONFIRMING ID is actually something even higher up the string should be done...
However if /you/ identify yourself as "Fred" although you are "Bob" and you keep self-reporting yourself as "fred" to the authorities they can sentance "the person who is here and has self identified as fred" to jail and "bob" is going to jail....
