and just like that,Xarpolis was exposed as a fake weeb.
And despite that he still continues to try EVERY SINGLE SHOW each season for at least one episode, even if it's a sequel to something he's never watched before.
You'd think someone would have learned to filter out what they don't like by genre/synopsis at this point but seeing his complete inability to identify and understand anime tropes/genres it's not that surprising I guess.

I go through anichart before every season and give everything a green or red rating. I've dropped plenty of shows I've marked green but very rarely does a red show end up swapped, usually stuff like Ranking of Kings that slips under everyone's pre-season radar.

Yeah I do the same, initial filter pass. If I didn't add a show on the "plan to watch" and I see people raving about it, I give it a shot.
My issue lately has more been end of season loss of interest. Like, I'll drop a show 10 episodes in...as in "I'll watch the remaining episodes later" but new season comes up and I never end up getting around to finishing.

I was the first on the ranking of kings bandwagon, but I have a relative in the anime industry, and she gushed over the show, and literally after only episode one, so I gave it a shot. That episode fucking two. All I've heard this season is "I wanna see where shield hero goes." This feels like a filler season, there's some bright prospects on the horizon though.

I know it's in the manga but the Spirit Tortoise definitely has the feeling of filler. You establish the waves as a world ending threat in Season 1, and then in Season 2 you immediately go off to deal with a different threat that's only tangentially related to the waves? Really weird pacing. Maybe it will do a better job of dovetailing with the waves as the season progresses.

That's because a lot of shows lately suffer from Game of Thrones syndrome, and either don't stick their landing, or just end suddenly trying to make people interested to buy the manga/LN.

To be fair, Robert Jordan did the whole "just a trilogy" thing without planning an ending first.

I think he had an ending planned, and what he told the show makers was probably exactly what he planned. It just fell flat as fuck because they are idiots and developed dany's char with a hammer, so nothing felt believable.

Not to derail the thread, but at it's core it was the typical "we have no source material to fall back on" situation, where they have no dialogue and character development from the original novels to rewrite for TV. Turns out that if you populate a writing room for a show with people good at condensing and rewriting existing material for TV, they are not so good at coming up with their own.
The downside to all of this is not that the show tanked in the last 2 seasons, the real downside is that Ser Arteriosclerosis now needs even more time to rewrite the ending of the novels, because of the blowback to the ending of the TV show.
Which is a bit of a shame, because it's fairly obvious that the (original) title hints at the two distinct story lines of Daenerys and the North are going to come together at the finale.

Director hasn't done a full show yet, which is probably why the pacing is terrible. Meanwhile the production committee is breathing down his neck to fit a certain number of source novels into a season.

Yea, shield hero is definitely not as good as the first season, but all this hate feels really unreasonable to me. We're far enough into this season to call it a trash season. Shit happens. SpyXfamily is definitely the winner of the three episode try for me, super good show, like rankings of kings was for last season. Was there a season in between? Can't even remember. We're a long way out from the god tier season we had where lost in paradise wasn't the best thing we had in a season.
