The manga hasn't really continued far past the anime for HxH, author had back problems for years and only did short periods of releases sporadically. There's a ton of exposition in those chapters and we're only just now getting into some good action again.

The anime didn't stop because of a manga hiatus, it stopped because it fucking sucked. Animes have no problem creating their own filler storylines anyway (part of the reason it sucked).

I'm assuming you're referring to Bleach? or HxH?

Either way, why did either of them suck? In your opinion.

Bleach became actual bad after the Espadas arc (including final aizen fight) and the filler episodes were worse. Kubo's writing continued a major downward spiral afterwards and eventually it just became complete nonsensical shit, which the anime stopped producing right around the same time. And it has only gotten progressively worse in the manga.

I didn't think the Hueco Mundo arc was that bad. A little repetitive but I've always enjoyed Bleach's fights. Their filler is garbage and probably accounts for more episodes than canon content, but I thought the voice acting and music was great idk.

HxH was so good. One of the best I've seen recently. I'm going to catch up on Re:zero now

That is part of the good stuff! It was pretty good (aside from most of the filler shit) right up until they end up with the Fullbring arc. That's when it takes a massive nosedive (after Ichigo one-shots Aizen being a huge departure and not awesome) and from then on the Anime is trash and the manga is worse, because at least the anime got shitcanned for being terrible while the manga is still going hah.

Super Ichigo being all badass was a plot point included to push movie sales - I mean the most bad ass point of Ichigo's history was made just to push people to see a subpar movie!
