Oh, the FPS is still a critical component of the game. It's just that the self contained alpha module has no release date at this time, it was supposed to be out in April.

From what's already leaked, the FPS 'works' but it isn't a fun or interesting game. I'm willing to bet they actually get the planetary social module out before they actually have an FPS combat game that's fun enough to ship to alpha.

Either that, or just launch the single player game.

Orrrr after all the money and bluster the only thing that hits market is an arena combat game with a dream of freelancer and anyone not in this for thousands becomes disenchanted at their ludicrous hype/expectations not being met in the slightest. I dunno they should have kept it like freelancer instead of trying to turn this into KA-53 simulator in space.

I'm pretty sure they just didn't hire any network programmers worth a shit. From what people have said, the ex-Crytek guys seem to be going full steam ahead on the single player game over in Germany.

Probably end of 2016 early 2017 at the before you actually see a full on persistent universe with the full promised functionality (even then probably not 100%). Remember chatting with my friends last year and thinking they were nuts for saying they would be playing the full game by end of this year.

This is all assuming they continue to make money to afford to pay the huge costs they must have now. Probably why they are pushing so hard on SQ42.

I'm not expecting the PU beta until2018 OR LATER. We'll probably see a PU alpha with a small subset of star systems sometime in 2017? MAYBE?

I fully expect the first two single player campaigns/games to be out before the PU alpha even begins. Maybe even all 3 single player campaigns.

I don't agree with the flight controls Mist. Freelancer was actually approachable and had a very friendly but scalable flight model, this game is too sim like. I have to actually care to fly around and right now I don't because there's only the demo stuff.

You're the only person that thinks flight is too hard. It's really easy to set up mouse/keyboard flight right now. Most people think flight controls are either good or too easy.

Ships can turn on a dime, stop on a dime, and strafe in 6 directions, and you can control guns + flight with only your mouse if you want.

It's not hard, it's just very finicky, not out of the box workable had to fuck with controls, mouse settings, etc to get it done and fifteen minutes later it was OK but still not perfect.

Squadron 42 will give us a better idea of what their development schedule is like as it requires most if not all of the PU's modules, like most of the ships, a good flight system, probably a lot of the system like repairs, transport, exploration, the FPS, and planetside stuff.

It doesn't require multicrew stuff, multiplayer, economy and any of the MMO stuff like chat, instancing etc...

So when SQ42 hits the market, they'll be pretty far along...but the delay of the FPS will most likely delay SQ42 a lot.

Actually it sorta does require multicrew since they said it would be co-op enabled out of the box, but lol who knows if that actually will happen now.

The delay of the FPS is mostly because of networking backend issues from what they're saying, so I doubt it effects SQ42 much at all.

I'm pretty sure those ex-Crytek guys can ship a single player game pretty easily.

Yeah, right now I have serious doubt about co-op for SQ42, but you never know. It's definitely a feature that can be dropped without any big impact on the game.

If all they did was copy ME3's FPS gameplay it'd be an amazing game.

The FPS module being delayed indefinitely is bad news though =\

I haven't really been payingtoomuch attention to the day-to-day but with the cash flow and dream++ they've been doing followed now by 'well... maybe later' this is starting to feel like a Greek Curt Schilling to me. They're selling the game they're not making and using the funds to build one that's 1/10th as complex to hopefully get even more cash to bankroll Freelancer 2?

Eh, na. The internal builds of Arena Commander seem to be coming along fine. The single player game was always the core part of the original pitch.

It'll be a long time before we see a game with 100s of ships flying in an instance, but they've demonstrated already they can get 20+ working in an instance fairly well.

I mean... if you don't see the parallels to Shillin' Schilling promising the dream and delivering a mediocre single player experience while spending ludicrous sums of money with no real plan except 'keep finding investors'...

Not saying it's going to be the case. I just wonder how many of those 10K+ players are doing this:

2018 for a full PU is probably pretty realistic, at the rate they are buring cash though makes me a bit concerned. People wanted a new freelancer/wing commander, the project scope has gotten way too large IMO.

If they were actually running out of cash they'd be selling more combat ships. The reason they're putting time into novelty shit like the Starliner is because they have plenty of money for now.

For me this a textbook example of feature creep... they should have concentrated on building the core game the promised in the kickstarter. Maybe add more planets if possible. Everything else should come later in free expansions. But i guess Chris Roberts wants a "real universe", not just a modernized Freelancer, and now that he has the money he simply lives his dream... im not too worried right now that they cant deliver, only when will they deliver? 2017? 2018?
The only thing i really dislike is them selling every ship as hard as they can for real world cash. The people buying are crazy fucks and deserve it, they are still taking it too far in my opinion (and dont start with the absolutely retarded prices for ALL ships...).

"This" isn't an example of anything. We have two modules from a company big enough to have teams on all the modules. One of those modules is delayed, the rest are still going forward. How can you tell? Because you guys fuck off to whatever games you like to play and pop in every time there's news to say the same things you've been saying since before the hangar existed.
