Pretty much. On one side you have Derek Smart stamping around along with people who are growing understandably wary about SC. On the other you have WhatHisName and the fanbois circling the wagons against any criticism and those who are still hopeful are getting dragged along for the ride.

I am not sure I could think of a single MMO that doesn't have this to some degree.

I'm not sure even WoW could get away withcharging $2500for some concept art of an armor set with a promise to deliver sometime in the future. I'm sure there'd be a couple of nut jobs but they'd probably be getting blasted everywhere else. Point being is seems the Star Citizen guys can really take it to the next level.

Update: The Escapist, notwithstanding Cloud Imperium Games' notice and posting, stands by its coverage of Star Citizen and intends to continue to investigate the developing story. Since publishing our original stories, we have been contacted by, and are currently interviewing, additional sources corroborating a variety of the reported allegations. Additionally, if Mr. Roberts' offer for The Escapist to "meet the developers making the game and see how we're building one of the most ambitious PC games first hand" remains open, we take the opportunity to accept such invitation so as to hopefully provide the public with sufficient information and opportunity to vet such sources' allegations and claims for themselves. We have also communicated the foregoing directly to Cloud Imperium Games.

Except this game is already playable and fairly fun, what they have so far. The fact that what they have so far is less than 20% of what they promised is not that big of a deal to most of the backers.

If they were desperate for money they'd be selling overpowered combat ships, not this fluff stuff.

Why bother if people are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a concept of "so like it's this ship that's basically modular hotels from the 80s, just pick the rooms and BAM instant ship WOW!"

Also, you know how I know all these mega-backers are full of hopium and shit? Anyone with any seat or sim time knows that the paper characteristics on an air(space)frame are worthless and until you fly the damn thing you won't know how the package works out. Buying this shit in concept stage or before flight time is bonkers. EVERYONE is going to be disappointed when these ships don't fly/perform/behave exactly like they 'dream' they will except some dude who spent 30K will be a little more than salty about it.

Really going out on a limb saying people who play video games are gonna bitch about something. I'm not into this spending tons of money to buy virtual anything, I just want a fucking game that is fun. It is interresting watching people shun buying virtual ships when a ton of people find it acceptable to drop hundreds on virtual cards. I don't see the difference.
