My pick for worst recurring ST character has to be Q. Omnipotent and petty doesn't make any fucking sense. There's a whole fucking universe out there. Why is this part of this galaxy of any interest whatsoever? "Humans are special." No they're not. Fuck you.

Also having a character that can do fucking anything is just a(nother) writer's crutch.

And double fuck "the traveller."

I know who it is but I'll let someone else answer, even if that person is probably going to cheat and look it up because the resemblance between then and now is almost non-existent.

Q did as he pleased and tormented many races in his quest to alleviate the boredom that comes with being Omnipotent. Picard was one of his favorite toys as was Vash which led to a fantastic appearance on DS9.

I don't really understand the motivation of Q to mess with Janeway as written. He might have been curious because of her distance from Earth (which prompted him to visit Picard initially) but I still like that they tried to illustrate the problem of a stagnant culture, even one who is omnipotent.

Well I think Voyager suffered significantly from exhaustion on Berman's part. His level of shit-giving was way low. Hell, I'd say Voyager was easily my least favorite of the series, with only Tuvok, the Doctor and Janeway herself bringing enough to the table to let me keep watching. Sure they had some good stories but overall it was pretty terrible, and I say this having watched Enterprise. Blaylock murdered the Vulcan race.

That's heresy, take that back. Not only was she crazy hot, but she had the perfect Vulcan features and her flat/mundane acting abilities suited the Vulcan personality (or lack thereof) perfectly. I mean she was no Spock, but I liked more than Tuvok.

Oh you must be frenzied if you think Blaylock had anything on Russ when it came to portraying a Vulcan. I will grant you the incredible hotness and the sharp features, all of which I'm sure helped her in the casting process, but beyond that she was fuck useless as a Vulcan. Also, I don't get the Tuvok apathy. Tim Russ, for me, was the best Vulcan of them all, next to Nimoy, of course. He always managed to find that ground where he was stoic and generally unmoved on the surface, but underneath he had that roiling Vulcan blood in him and sometimes you could tell. No other actor, including Zachary, has hit the right chord for me, although I think Zachy baby did a fine job and I enjoyed Abrams' take on Star Trek.

I won't fault Blaylock for not being a good Vulcan when the Vulcan mythos was completely destroyed by that series. They had to do a hell of a lot of patchwork to fix it before they got canceled. Vulcans don't mind meld? Bullshit! Mind Melding transmits desease? Bullshit! Vulcans outright lie if it suits their needs? If fallacy is the only means by which an important enough objective may be completed then a lie is logically mandated!(they got that part right)

Both Kristy Alley and Robin Curtis nailed it when playing Lt. Savik. For some odd reason I have kept thinking Savik betrayed the Federation in The Undiscovered country but that was a different Vulcan but in looking up Savik I read that it was originally intended that the the conspirator was Savik but they altered that story which is sad because I feel that someone who had been so close to Spock could could have only made a more interesting story. I think I just assumed Female Vulcan = Savik because they all look alike to me

Anyway, you're quite right. Saavik was supposed to be in VI and for whatever reason couldn't do it, which is why they tried so hard to establish the backstory of Kim Catrall with Spock being her mentor and the tender moment of drinking tea from that exploded pig of a glass. Of course, it couldn't resonate nearly as well as it would have with Curtis reprising her role Saavik, but it was still well done.

Oh and I always thought the mind-meld thing was a really ham-fisted allegory about homosexuality and AIDS. You're all shunned and reviled if you meld, and you get this 'disease' if you do and Vulcan Jeebus will be unhappy or whatever. It was god-awful. Almost as bad as the fucking Enterprise theme song.

the original is slower and worse, I can appreciate the Enterprise version in comparison and I generally like Rod Stewart.

I am going to watch Star Trek: Nemesis all the way through for the first time. I have had 2 false starts but I have faith of the heart that this time I can do it.

I only have 2 bottles of Jagermeister or I would try to watch every movie made after The Voyage Home. I clearly missed some of the finer details of The Undiscovered Country but is the price of that knowledge (actually watching them again) too high?

You know what? Fuck anyone who talks shit about the JJ Abrems Star Trek, these movies have been shitty since IV and his was at least fun and would have been better if Nero's portion of the story wasn't chopped to shit.
