When it comes to my choice of religion I agree,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_Bible. When it comes to a deep probing story into a variety of core religious beliefs I call it interesting. As I stated Sisko ultimately is analogous to Hercules which I find fascinating because usually when they need a savior they go for jesus with guns like the matrix did. Q represents the trickster god Loki, he uses his power for his own amusement, he had no real interest in Sisko. The Prophets are the eternal god who watches but only interferes through visions, they leave the orbs to guide the Bajorans and are capable of directly communicating their will but are unable to directly affect anything , they seem only to be able to work through avatars. The Changelings are representative of the pharaohs or any other ruling party that claims divinity. They are also represented as gods of order and intolerance, where they initially set out to defend themselves they wound up stepping far beyond defense and into domination. The Vorta are Angels, created to do god's bidding without question, the Jem'Hadar are demons to be sent where destruction is needed.I hate Sisko's emissary story. Fuck that metaphysical magical god shit.
Holy shit, I never realized the Hercules aspect. It makes so much sense, esp if you view the Borg as the Olympian Gods, and thus, Sisko's position on the Defiant project.Shatner is warming up to the internet crowd in a way that Patrick Stewart has not. While I appreciate Stewart's stance on twitter (I even avoid facebook) Shatner just had a conversation with an astronaut currently in space because of the use of twitter.

I would love to see this catch national headlines instead of the insipid kardashian breeding rituals. NASA needs funding and Star Trek needs a new show and IMO this can only lead to great things.
Just finished DS9 again, I can't believe I keep forgetting that Sisko's emissary story is based on the trials of Hercules. It's very clear at the end, especially when you think of how the show opens with the death of his wife and you throw the being a half-god into the mix.
they'd still want to conquer our planets for resources and assimilate us for our biological distinctivenessIf I were to equate the Borg to anything in this series it might be the hundred-handers, because they are obscure and powerful, aren't given much of a personality and only get involved very early in the story. But I wouldn't compare them to hundred-handers because they are space zombies who mindlessly consume all they see, although that isn't really true either. I still Maintain that the best way to beat the Borg would be to advance their technology so far that they would no longer have any interest in other races because they would no longer be any purpose to adding the now inferior technological and biological distinctiveness to their own.
Shatner's original intent was for them to literally meet God. That idea went over like a lead balloon and we got Sybok and the imprisoned Moses Q instead. Regardless, Shatner is a terrible director and whatever script they went with would have been stillborn on the screen.I just caught the end of Star Trek V <facepalm> "What does God need with a spaceship?"
I just realized a huge missed opportunity. They had all of the back-story they needed at that point to have made the the god they found be an imprisoned and incredibly irate John De Lancie who cannot leave "time out" without a ship because he was being punished by the continuum and they had limited his powers. They could have easily cut out the Spock's brother bullshit and focused on Q being an incredible asshole for about an hour. He would have also been a good choice because it's been shown he didn't really give a damn if he killed anyone in early TNG and it would give him a motivation for bugging the humans all the time in the future. Q would of course find Kirk absolutely abhorrent and treat him with the same disdain he shows Worf but I think he might have a more civil attitude with a Vulcan but would still point out the species flaws out of habit.Shatner's original intent was for them to literally meet God. Brilliant idea, all of which would have required significantly more talent in storytelling and direction than Shatner possesses.I just realized a huge missed opportunity.
