That can justify the original because there could be a very complex series of completely different events that result in there being a Kirk / Spock etc that also existed on an Enterprise etc.

But in going back to the well repeatedly over the years to the same alternative universe makes that far less likely. In fact the only times there's been an significant change between the general status quo of technology or personnel mirror has been when a previous Mirror episode was directly involved.

My friend pointed out a plot hole: in TOS the mirror-universe was unknown. Yet Discovery would suggest that the TOS crew should have been aware of it's existence. The story-arc isn't over so who knows how it resolves, but one thing is the Discovery should not be able to communicate their findings to Starfleet.

The mirror universes in the various shows are different, sometimes different within the same series.

TOS had three different episodes, and the method of action was different for each story. One is an alternate planet, one is an alternate Enterprise, another, a dimensionally altered Defiant.

TNG dealt with the multiverse, not mirror universe. Remember the episode where the one Enterprise-D was beat to fuck by the Borg, with Riker at command, crying he didn't want to go back, before getting blown the fuck up by a minor phaser attack? There were 285,000 Enterprises in that shot, apparently. The other episode dealt with a shrinking universe.

DS9 had a various episodes where they constantly crossed back and forth between the same alternate universe (I believe they mentioned it might be the same mirror universe as Kirk's).

VOY had fluidic space. Also the episode where the Doctor's mechanism survived hundreds of years, and the species had portrayed the Voyager crew as militaristic (remember Janeway with the black gloves?).

ENT had the two episode arc that was entirely separate from the main storyline, and didn't have any crossover with the main universe.

Haven't watched the latest Discovery episode because I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the first 9 episodes. I have it downloaded and waiting.

Not phased by the difficulties in having a mirror universe appear logically consistent, and loved this latest episode. Gritty and going dark. Definitely no warm fuzzy tribble-cuddling in this series. Can't wait for the next one.

The Discovery only looks really good when it goes to Black Alert and the 'saucer section' starts rotating like a huge Stargate and then they do the folding space trick.

I went back and watched the 2 Enterprise (Scott Bakula version) episodes to get a bit of backstory on what's up with the Defiant in this universe. I never watched that series so it was an interesting change of pace and gives you a bit of the feeling where they are at since it's basically the prequel to Discovery (and to Kirk/Defiant). I'm probably not going to bother with the TOS episode of the Defiant since that one is pretty straightforward.

Season 4 episodes 18 & 19 for those interested. It's on Amazon Prime.

There are also 5 episodes of DS9 in the same vein, but those are 100 years in the future to Discovery so not as critical.

Wow, they managed to make Andorians and Tellarites actually look better. Honestly fucking amazed after the travesty of what became of the Klingons.

First mirror episode was full of potential but fell a little flat with slow pacing.

Second one was fucking amazing, even though the guy being a klingon was spoiled months ago.

Can't wait for the next one!

Of course that's the Emperor...I feel like a moron for that even being a surprise.

I feel they knew they fucked up Klingons and worked extra hard to redeem themselves with the Andorian and Tellurites. Hope we can get one of each on the show as recurring cast.

Part of me thinks there has to be a redemption arc for Ash Tyler based on his status as a hot guy on Trek, but this show has been bold about doing what is necessary for the story and not giving a fuck about conventional series writing so...

Like for real Ash? He's probably in super prison or dead after many memory drains or some shit.
