I noticed that too. Shouldn't have happened for what, 20+ more years? There's no reason, alternate timeline or no, that would have happened already. I think it was just supposed to be an inside 'know' to Trek nerds, but it was a dumb one, coming from someone who loved VI :p
Again...it wasn't Kronos that blew up, but the moon Praxis. Go watch VI again.

They're talking about the moon dude. The moon of Kronos = Praxis. Kronos, not being a moon, is obviously not the subject of the sentence.

Sorry first spoiler said Kronos, but there was "moon of" in there. The point remains though that they never discussed that event in this film, so not sure why the panties are in a bunch about some sort of continuity issue.

I liked it.

My only real bitch was that it's 200+ years in the future with superior computers, that can do amazing calculation, but the transporter is always unable to lock on. The transporter is so OP that they have to tell us 4 times in the movie why they can't use it and then blame is on the computer being slow. Mind you this computer is powerful enough to calculate moving a city sized ship through space at warp speed. Just tell us it's offline, the ship has been through hell, we'll believe it.

really enjoyed it. I liked the nod to the past movies while making it their own. I was derping hard I guess and I didn't even put the name together when they 'revealed' it. The only thing that was semi bothersome to me was

Spock going toe to toe with him in hand to hand combat, after they mentioned he was basically a demi god. Hell, even him running seemed weird, as that gun seemed to have minimal impact on him. He got out of the vulcan grip twice? And that thing was pretty instantaneous in previous star treks, so he didn't have much to fear from 1on1. That and the fact they could beam people in right onto that moving car/ship thing, then why not send a few people down?

Because Vulcans are also quite badass physically dude. Especially when they turn into rage monsters.

But yeah, loved the movie. It takes a giant shit on the first one.

I liked that they avoided any parallels with Wrath of Khan up until the reactor room bit, where they went full on remake all the way down to the dialog. It was a great way to bring back the same character but in a much different situation. They did a great job avoiding spoilers in the trailers etc but then had terrific fun tossing hints at us once the movie started. (cryo tubes = OH SHIT IT REALLY IS GOING TO BE KHAN HELL YEA)

If only Pike knew how much better he had it this time around.

Maybe in part 3 the Enterprise will get to do something other than get the shit blown out of it.

Saw it and loved it. I think it's pretty obvious that, even at warp, it takes awhile to get somewhere. They just don't put words on the screen saying it. Why bother? It keeps the movie moving.

Funny to find out that Kirk likes to fuck furry's.
Weren't they asian catgirls, for that matter?

Because it was clearly supposed to be a shout out to fans of the original movies, except that it is essentially a paradox itself. It can't have happened yet, so it's both a shout out and an insult to the exact same people. It's like some kind of self-loathing catch-22 beating itself in the face with a frying pan.

It wasn't a shout out, because you're confusing an event that happened in Star Trek VI to a moon, with simply an "uninhabited area" of a planet that aren't the same thing or related in any way. People's confusion over it is inventing a continuity problem that simply doesn't exist.

No, he's talking about the broke up moon in orbit, not the province where Khan was not-hiding.

Which since they didn't mention it or name it in any way, I never assumed it was a nod to the original films...just window dressing.

Just got back... Lens flare didn't bother me at all EXCEPT in the scene where Marcus and daughter are talking... Its meant to be heart to heart and all I can see is GIANT BLUE LINES ACROSS THE ENTIRE SHOT!! ALL OVER!!

Yeah, that really bothered me in that scene too. It was very distracting.

It's a destroyed moon orbiting Kronos, which only has one moon, are you retarded?
This. There weren't even other random moons that weren't in the original canon floating around. It was Praxis, kersploded, decades early, which means they put thought into it, but not ENOUGH thought to see why it makes no sense.

Last third of the movie was so fucking boring I couldn't believe it. Zero drama. I just wanted it to be over. Great aesthetic, style, characters though - so that redeemed the thing quite a bit. Not bad overall. I liked all the nerdy Star Trek references.

I enjoyed it for what it was, an action sci-fi movie with Star Trek overtones. The first was definitely better. By the end of the first 30 minutes anyone with half a brain could figure out how the rest of the movie was going to pan out. In all honesty Into Darkness seemed like Abrams audition for Star Wars.

I had to catch a nap to prep myself for the midnight viewing of this shit. Before I napped I clicked netflix and decided star trek 2 was appropriate background noise for my nap and hell did it pay off. I was thoroughly entertained the whole movie but as I walked out I did find myself complaining about a couple things.

1. Budweiser product placement - lame (gene probably turned in his grave for that one)

2. a ton of random alien races with no explanation - the star trek universe is deep and i don't know why you would just throw random non-explained alien races in the background of so many scenes.....for instance Scotty's assistant..wtf was that? why not just make the thing a Bolian or some random other race that was already established in the trek universe?

otherwise great flick...and to settle any question, it was damn near a pure action flick if not for the few references to the past
