Star Wars: Battlefront, as told by Dice on Frostbite 3 (PS4?/XBone?/PC?)

i enjoy battlefield too but the news for PC is imo more insidious than at first glance. one of the nice things about the PC community is having varied server rules, and being able to favorite ones you like. with this decision it may mean there are either no servers (p2p) which creates all kinds of shit lag problems, or all servers are going to be run by EA so no custom rules.

i don't think either way it makes any difference for consoles, there will be tons of players and everyone is used to random matchmaking. but on PC its nice setting up bigger groups, having favorite servers, communities, etc. without that I think you'll see a lot fewer PC players. You just have to look at titanfall or battlefield hardline to see what a deleterious effect that has on the PC versions.

anyways its still a preorder for PS4 for me, its $48 at best buy and you get a $10 gift card so paying $40 is no a brainer, can trade it in for $40 the first 3 weeks and its a free rental. On PC you could wait until launch and buy it right on Origin, you have 48 hours to get a refund if it sucks.

Meh, the EA dogma, not all EA is the same EA. Ive found the entire battlefield/Dice series quite nice. Yeah BF4 was shipped early and unfinished, but provided hundreds of hours of pure entertainment. Same with BF3 and the older BF series. I found the BF series way more enjoyable than any other shooter franchise. They are such good looking and good feeling games with great gun play. To me they were always the more "adult" option.
EA bullshit is everywhere. It's because of EA there are zero mods for battlefield. They purposely fuck over the consumers.

I loved BF1942 and BF2, but the 3 and 4 were shit in comparison to me. Not only did they take away all mod support, they made you pay out the ass for every little expansion. Also, the destruct-able environments were cool and everything but it really fucked over your infantry players. I still don't understand their maps, huge open flat swathes of land with little to no protection between cap points.

To each their own, but I think they were subpar and glad I only paid full price for BF3 on PS3. Well worth the 5 bucks for the others.

My urge to buy a PS4 is strong right now.

I'm really hoping this plays like BC2, that was some fun shit.

They probably saved two days of coding by not putting in sever select. What are you nerds going to go play, the star wars mod for BF4?

Fuck EA, Fucking mongoloids.

I think they must be expecting a lot of bandwagon non-gaming SW fans to play this considering how simple the gameplay appears to be and now the matchmaking.

Yeah, I'm out on this, but I was never heavily in the in camp. Communities and proper moderation are the cornerstone of what Multiplayer FPS have on PC over consoles. This kind of matchmaking just ensures that when friends of uneven skill group queue, the games will be filled with good players and shit players, or your shitty friend will get destroyed by people who can play and aim. This only vaguely helps servers filled with only solo queued players. Also - I think they underestimate how many concurrent users you need to fill up servers with a skill matchmaker. Especially if there is mode or map preference built into the search which breaks up the player base even more for filling. It really is the bane of any kind of skill matcher. Rocket League has 100,000 to 40,000 concurrent and wait times in low gold of their system are still a few minutes. The PC numbers for Hardline and Battlefield 4 I think were way under 100k concurrent. Also Rocket League is both PS4/Steam Cross play so their numbers are unified, where as this game will be a PC pool/Console pool because of the Mouse/Gamepad inequality problem.

Dota 2 floats between 250,000 and a million concurrent depending on which sets of timezones are awake as another number comparison.

Its not bad really - and they ironed out a few kinks from when i last played - tho i had to update video to get past the dam mode type. Game still runs like a dream tho on ultra once inside. Ive not seen how the console versions are yet but the PC version is pretty dam impressive.
