What?
The tossing of the saber in the first scene is not refusing to fight his father - he just did and won - do you even Star Wars? It's refusing to take his fathers place, embracing the dark side, fulfilling a dark side destiny, becoming more man than machine - the emperor even says so - and Luke thinking, listening, adding it all up, looking at his machine hand and....rejecting this. Rejecting to become a Darth. Rejecting to kill his father. Rejecting to adhere to the Emperor and becoming his lackey instead of Darth Vader. NEVER! I'll never turn to the dark side. You've failed your highness. I'm a Jedi. Like My father before me. Thus rejecting the dark side of the force - naive, but strong in faith.
But sure. Other than it's the same character tossing the same (?) lightsaber with the same hand and again rejecting the force, all the bs that goes with it - training, failing, padawans, dark side following light side, being dragged in again regardless of seeking exile, force severance - reaching this conclusion, being wiser, crankier, and a poor script - and both films sucking from there on out - no connection
Throwing the lightsaber isn't the problem. It's the way they had him throw it. He hucks it over his shoulder like Moe Howard

This is a point in one of the Plinket reviews, probably the third one. He says "ah yes, your lightsaber" like it's some sort or children's toy then "take your jedi weapon" like it's totally beneath him. He could probably just use the force to stop their hearts but he goes for lightning because he wants to torture them.
This is contradicted in the prequels but I just thought it would be cool if Luke tosses the lightsaber because he is way beyond needing one. As is Snoke, and they take each other out.

Well in the prequels and Clone Wars he fights enemies that are actually a credible threat to him. Mace Windu + red shirts, Yoda, Maul + Savage. He's at least as powerful as he was back then, presumably more, and RotJ Luke definitely doesn't measure up to any of those as a challenge. It's not contradicted so much as the context is changed once the character actually gains background exposition and isn't just 'that evil guy with lightning hands'.

Only if some storm troopers showed up and picked the Ewoks up. The storm troopers would start to hit each other with the Ewoks, like they were hitting each other with pillows. Slowly the storm troopers would lose pieces of armor slowly revealing naked woman underneath the suit. This set of events would distract the emperor long enough for Luke to deliver the critical blow killing the emperor.

One who enjoyed Family Guy's version of why Ewoks were so bad. Most people who read these forums know the source material and so I did not feel as though I needed to Acknowledge it. But if it makes you feel better.

The Star Trek TNG movies ruined Picard's character. Fight me bro.
The other actors didn't get enough screen time to be ruined. Besides maybe Data and I guess they kinda ruined him too?

I like First Contact as a conclusion to the Q/Picard story arc that began in Encounter at Farpoint. When Picard is screaming as he machine-guns down his own assimilated crewmen I always picture Q laughing. He proved that Picard wasn't really any more evolved than those that came before him. Sloane even calls him on it. Picard enjoyed killing them.

I'm open to the conversation.
Generations had him show what a louse Kirk was, took Picard's logic to pull him out of heaven. But it set the solid stage for him never leaving the captains chair. Good advice, Kirk.
First Contact he literally reenacted Moby Dick, it was even called out and quoted in the movie. He grew as a person and a character. I mean, he'd been through being assimilated, four lights. For such a stoic person, nothing defines a character better than when they're forced to experience their limitations. He rages, and is brought back down, realizes his mistakes, apologizes, thinks, and acts. He didn't enjoy killing his former officers, he hated the thought of them having to suffer like he did. In his mind he's doing them a favor. He sacrifices a crewman asking for help just moments before. After watching his planet be consumed by them, and the threat of them taking what was left of his humanity he almost lost his own. That he acts out in rage, while not a precedent of his character, shows even he had his limits, but it didn't take much to bring him back down to zero.
Insurrection he got to feel young again, even though he was already old as balls in season 1. To be fair, Patrick Stewart is fairly timeless in comparison to everyone who wasn't a black cast member (Gates being an exception, she's a sexy old lady, even in person, I got to meet her a couple years ago, teaching gymnists and dancers has served her well, anywho...). He had to deal with his rambunctious friend, that being Data. Literally just watched What Are Little Girls Are Made Of, the TOS episode where Spock does something very similarly. Overall, it's a movie about spying, and even the most careful precautions having influence. Some might equate it to native American lifestyle of living at peace with nature, being anti-technology, which is great for avoiding species like the Borg, but dull headed species sealing to abuse resources are always a threat - very complex ideological questions.
Nemesis. Tom Hardy. Patrick Stewart. This movie had glory written all over it, but Trek cheese and directing was too much. Again with the Kirk/Spock imagery in the portrayal of Picard/Data. Picard again nearly sacrifices himself for that of his friend, who he defended as a person in that one blisteringly amazing TNG episode. He's just following through. And for all of that, Data sacrifices himself for him. Unfortunately, even Ron Perlman couldn't save this one. A lot of shit for maybe 20 minutes of Star Trek.
Every other character was a punchline in all of the movies. Troi, we don't have the time to talk about time, Geordi was basically absent in most films save spying on a dude pissing, Troi was a joke, Crusher nearly absent, Worf the one who always defines the tough guy getting mauled by the baddy to show how tough they are. And various red shirts. Hell, Janeway and The Doctor were more memorable.
To say it destroyed Picarss's character I'd say is definitively inaccurate. It developed and furthered it in ways they couldn't in 7 season. Similarly with Data. Unfortunately everyone else was pretty much a bi-line.
