Guess it's a somewhat of a deep dive but they DID (early in TFA when Han boards the Falcon) previously talk about how Unkar Plutt installed the compressor in the Millennium Falcon and Rey and Han both thought it was a bad idea so that explains her awkward exuberance in the scene but it's still eye-rollish that she just yanks a piece of hardware out and that's "bypassing the compressor" LoL.

Okay.

Funny enough, a girlfriend I was talking to on the phone about the newest trilogy and new film and all its problems basically admitted that the movie was good (yes, we disagreed) but the second you scrutinize the story on a level deeper than a 14 yr old's comprehension of the world that it's complete crap (I got her to admit that at least!). I.E. She thought the films were great, but they were not meant for "us" (meaning our generation)... she was talking about her teenage daughter.

This is fair. I am probably being too nerdy about compressors. I think Chris is right that I would not have as much of a problem with that scene if Rey had simply bypassed the 'ion deflector'.

Even then, it should not have been represented as her literally ripping some component out of the ship. And beyond that, it should not have been presented as a total mystery to Han. Han should know how his ship works.

I know why it was done. The old guy had to be upstaged by the young girl. It's the narrative thrust of our whole generation.

That isn't actually that bad, they established that she was a starship scavenger who could somewhat look after herself with a staff. She can have a skillset.

Luke was established to be a bored teenager who could pilot and hit small targets really well.

The problem is that her skillset wasn't limited to what was established, engineering and 2H melee weapons.

I think that she could translate some languages (Wookie?), was an expert pilot, fight with 1H weapons, intuitively use advanced force powers, in TLJ she was an ace shot in the Millenium Falcon gunner seat,m.

They should have kept her away from flying and gunning on the Falcon, maybe have her fly it awkwardly but Finn with his military training can cover for it by one shooting the Tie Fighters.

They should have had her lose in TFA using a 1H lightsaber, but then get a double ended lightsaber in TLJ which fit her staff fighting skills.

She truley is a Mary Sue but engineering was set up... kinda.
Why would a person who has never flown on a spacecraft know the first thing about how a specific spacecraft works? Why would she know more about said spacecraft than the person who has owned it for a few decades?

It's retarded, retarded beyond belief and it insults my intelligence.

It is retarded but it is also not nearly as insulting to me (personally) as Holdo telling Poe to shut the fuck up and obey.

For me, the exact death of Star Wars happened when Admiral Pink-Hair told one of her most able officers to shut his fucking mouth and do what he is was commanded to do. Stay silent and obey without question. It's literal Nazi shit.

Not to mention, even later in the movie when Poe is finally told what the plan is, he is totally okay with it. It was, after all, a solid plan. Why couldn't she tell her officers about it?

You are right to criticize the 'bypass the compressor' scene. It was mostly a Mary-Sue scene. But as bad as that was, it was nothing compared to the feminist Hitler that was Holdo.

Holdo is the most insulting thing ever.

Not quite the 190m spronk spronk posted about. This information was readily available.

I kept seeing 190m this 190 that, and it's simply not true.

What's wrong with saying there is weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Nothing, besides it not being true.

With a $175.5 million three-day debut, Disney's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker delivered the third largest December opening of all-time. While the performance tops the studio's conservative, $165 million opening, many, including BoxOfficeMojo, expected the film to top $200 million for the weekend and the slide to $175.5 million is a bit below where expectations were just yesterday, when it appeared the film would open anywhere from $190-195 million after Friday estimates. The slide began following the film's opening day, which was pretty much on par with recent Star Wars releases, which saw preview grosses making up 44% of the film's opening day. However, it is the only Star Wars release of the five released by Disney thus far, to see the Friday gross make up over 50% of the film's total opening weekend, which brings into question what kind of impact word of mouth will have on the film's final gross.

That's down from TLJ's opener of 220m.

Through the lens of Avengers: End Game-- these numbers are going to cement the hiatus.

I'm not sure if the 2022-2023 movie with Feige is going to be in production by 2021. I could easily see a 10-year hiatus in order if this movie doesn't recoup budget. Anything short of 1.1b is a commercial bomb for Disney.

China opener closed at 12.1m and the movie is expected to close its entire run at 18m short of a miracle.

Meaning-- the movie has no legs in China. The people who cared saw it, and that's the end of that.

How can someone who shoots womprats for fun off his speeder be able to pilot a military spaceship and use it's cannons? It's like a kid shooting an air rifle off a quad bike also being great at driving and firing tanks.

You assume that being familiar with the tech of crashed X Wings and Stardestroyers has enough transferable skills to know Carellian Freighters. Maybe Han just took his ship to a mechanic and only knew the bare minimum to make urgent repairs.

I'm agreeing with you that Rey is a retarded Mary Sue, but it strengthens that argument to contrast how skills can be set up well and how they can be pulled out of the writers ass to empower women.

I do understand why you guys feel this way, because her character is stupidly good at everything she does. The point I was making earlier is that there is some much power creep and ridiculous bullshit in the recent movies (The Final Order? lol, yeah OK I buy THAT happened) that I don't think it is simply because yay-girls so much as it is Hollywood thinking we want to see massive space battles and over-the-top action. In that environment, whoever your protaganist is has to be ridiculously OP because everything else is. The common ground I think we all can agree on, is the over-the-top aspects of all of the films are retarded and hurt the stories way more than they helped. I don't think anyone is arguing this (or any of the recent films) are great.

He wasn't shooting womp rats with a blaster from his speeder. He was flying a T16.

"Even so, these airspeeders were often used as training vehicles by the Rebel Alliance,[7] due to the fact that their flight controls were similar to those of X-wings. "

Because 190m was the estimate on Saturday morning. The Sunday morning estimate revised things down. Jesus Christ.

I felt the fact that Rey was clearly training under Leia ever since TLJ was meant to address the Mary Sue issues. It's implied that Poe and Finn have been on a great many adventures in the interim while Rey has mostly just stayed back and worked on her training.

As far as Force abilities go, Rey ain't got nothing on Baby Yoda. Kid can't even talk and he's already force choking bitches like a pro.

Here, this is the part that matters if you're too lazy to listen to 70 minutes of greatness.
