If they plan to keep putting anything that might be worth watching behind paywalls, they are going to learn the same lesson print media did, in the exact same way. Adding this to the scrap heap with the new Star Trek show.

Yup.

At least CBS was trying to sell their pay service with a full blown series though. This is a series of what amount to shorts. Just over an hour and a half of programing. That's some next level arrogance there.

They didn't "cancel 3 big budget movies" they had the co-creator and original director spitballing ideas with a couple of writers. In the meanwhile those two did Independence Day Resurgence and shortly after its release MGM pulled the plug on what would probably be a similar abortion. Bear in mind both of them turned down offers to consult on the TV series and had nothing to do with it.

Now they're going low budget webisodes to maintain the rights, so they at least have the option to develop it again in the future without a failed reboot dragging it down.

I thought they couldn't power it up in the 30s because it had no dialing device, so they had to wait for nuclear power and computers to turn it on or something?

Fuck your childhood

But actually I think the gates are all self-powered for 'local' travel. Also, DHDs were the only 'fast' way to dial but you could manually rotate and lock the Chevrons IIRC. I think the issue was A) they didn't know what to make of the symbols and B) maybe something about the Cartouche with locations they didn't find yet or didn't put two and two together until the original movie that it was stellar cartography just they were off due to stellar drift?

God that looks so horrible. They need to just sell it off and let another studio make something good.

It's this stupid prequel shit like Star Trek again.

What could be really good is have it set in the future, probably 50 years ahead so you can have some old original cast cameos. Show the consequences on society of having Stargates for easy mass travel (they actually had an episode on this in SG1) and have either a more space opera or an exploration angle with the spaceships they had by the end - could go more Star Trek style even.

This. All Daniel did was figure out a valid address to use. The gate itself would be powered already.

Not sure how interesting this will be unless the gate activates.

i think there are some other instances of the gate being used in the past, not counting sg-1 time traveling, but this was the one i remember from sg1

-
In 1997, Daniel discovered the Stargate had been successfully activated in the 40s and went to visit Catherine for answers. She was pleased to see Daniel, and confirmed for the first time that the Eye of Ra had been returned to her. Upon realizing that Littlefield might still be alive, she accompanied SG-1 to the planet Heliopolis. Once there she was reunited with Ernest and they traveled back to Earth together. (SG1: "The Torment of Tantalus")

It's going to be a shitshow.

This is going to either be a complete rewrite alienating fans, or it's going to be a Phantom Menace level of predestination horseshit.

SGA and SG:1 both sort of went off the rails at the same time. I enjoyed SGA vs the wraith (cat and mouse) but I really wish they had done a better job ramping up until "THE ENTIRE GALAXY WILL DIE" part. The one where they found the Hippaforalcus (sp?) was fun, I wanted more Ancient shit episodes.

Yeah the Wraith were definitely the most interesting villains that SG:A had to offer, and I felt similarly about the Goa'uld in SG-1. I did like the Ori though, just because it showed how powerful the ancients were.

SG:A did have a few duds, but I found characters like McKay and Ronon to be pretty refreshing. I really enjoyed those characters and the arcs that went with them. I loved SG-1 too though, the only series I didn't really like was SG:U to be honest.

i was ok with the new sg-1, but really don't know if could handled another 3 years of the Ori

cancelling SG:A was just retarded. it was still doing ok in ratings with its low budget.
they just made stupid mistake after mistake with SG:U.

The problem with the Ori was that they were too ephemeral. The dumb preachers and shit, it was too much magic and retreating, not enough problem solving or intergalactic indiana jonesing. I mean it was like plague, super weapon, super space gate, jesus child, etc. etc. It was just too much to just roll out with a new enemy that late in the series.

It didn't help that it was around the same time they benched Richard Dean Anderson either, I know he was a major part of the show for me personally, and no matter who they brought in to replace him was never going to live up to O'neill.

Then a new villain came along and it was just too many changes too fast.
