Holy fuck swipe went extra retarded on my last post, my bad. Im just glad that ive shown my wife myself swyping words and it giving me crazy stuff no where near the same area of keyboard with many extra letters etc. Wtb fingers that dont feel all crampy within seconds trying to peck at tiny onscreen kb.

720p at 60fps on basically almost anything is pretty fucking tits.
Valve has said themselves that the target is 800p30 (it's actually a 16:10 screen).

I think the screen will be a problem too. A 7"-ish screen makes text hard enough to read on the Switch, and those are games specifically designed for the platform. PC games that don't get a UI patch to support super low resolution on a tiny screen are going to be a nightmare in a lot of cases. You can even see it now by loading up a few Game Pass cloud games on a phone or small tablet (and that's 720p being displayed/upscaled on a vastly higher resolution and quality AMOLED, if you're playing on something like an S21 Ultra).

Can you dock it to a tv like the switch? That would be dope for work travel/hotels.

Expanding on this answer, the Steam Deck is just standard PC components in a handheld gaming form factor that runs Linux, with the capability to install full Windows. So docks and other standard PC accessories can work as normal. At worst, the built-in touchpads might not work on Windows but I think they will (either natively or if needed from a Valve provided driver). Valve plans to sell a USB C dock for ethernet, USB A, hdmi, and display port connections but any standard USB C dock should work just fine.

One potential benefit is that Valve (through proton/wine improvements) and game devs (to reach the sheer number of Decks expected to be sold) will finally have a large incentive to be serious about native Linux ports and/or being Wine friendly. With enough critical mass we might see other companies come out with their own versions (things like the Aya Neo already exist) and some have speculated that Valve intends for this to be the case for future versions, freeing Valve from having to make a version 3 or possibly even a version 2.

Of course, the whole thing might just flop as a portable gaming device. As suggested above, not every PC game is going to be playable on a 7" low-res screen with console-style input, even if FPS is fine. The games you want to play might not work or have poor support on Proton/Wine even if 1,000s of others work great. And games that make use of DRM and anti-cheat software might never work properly unless you switch the OS to Windows..

I personally think this is great if you own a lot of pixel / side-scroller / controller friendly game on Steam.

No way. This isnt for that type shit, its catered to pc owners who want the same portability as a psp or switch but with their steam library. People are going to buy this to be able emulate shit like BotW and play GTAV online.

I don't mind a bigger size of it. Most of the portability of my Switch involves moving between my couch and my toilet. I'm not hip 90s kid with a GameGear crammed into my back jeans pocket.

I got it within 12 mins and have Q1 2022 for the 512GB. You had to get it in the first 3 minutes in North America to get a December date.

The thing looks so awesome. That video makes me want to preorder one. lol
Normally FPS controller games are cancer to me, but that being able to swivel around to look is fucking rad. I don't care how stupid I look at work doing that.

The motion control for FPS is usually very good(Wii Experience). Very accurate. It just takes some adjustment. They have seemed to solved it. If you want to play the hardest of hardest of Doom Eternal on it, it won't be the thing for you unless you are a achievement whore.
