Payback appears to be 100 days if you diligently clear it every 24 hours. So it depends on if you will still be playing then.
I bought it, but in hindsight I think I would have rather saved for the 750 crystal pack of 11 mystic scrolls. You really want some kind of premium creature to keep you focused.

So i have the materials for one 5*. Of the following, which would best serve? (Done some research -- pretty much all of these are commonly held to be good monsters).
Fire: Amazon (Ceres), Sylph
Wind: Warbear, Living Armor

1. Find the Power Stones! (Sept. 5th 12am - Sept. 13th 8am PDT)
Power Stones can be looted from the Treasure Chests at all Dungeons except the Special Dungeons.
- How to use Power Stones (Limited Time Only)
Power Stones will double your chance of Rune Power-up success.
1) Choose the Rune you'd like to Power-up.
2) Select Power Stone before you tap [Power-up].
3) Power-up!
Power Stones will disappear on Sept. 21st 8pm PDT, so make sure to use them up while you can!

All Dungeons (Scenario + Cairos)
* Please note that Secret Dungeons and Hall of Heroes are excluded from this event.
- Get Bonus Rewards by finding Power-up Stones!
You'll get a special reward everytime you find 10/20/40/70/100 Power-up Stones! (One-time only)
The number of Power-up Stones you find will be tallied in the Event page.

I threw some stones in to maxing out my vendor since I have a few monsters I need to get awakened and 5* already.
Speaking of, getting enough Mid/High waters/magics to Awaken my water 9 tailed fox is fucking brutal. Ran the fuck out of water B4 all day and still not even close. I think I'm looking at like another week or two at this rate.....fuck. B5 is too hard, I have shit for wind monsters. And I don't want to use any of my meager stored energy gifts, want to dump them for slow ass farming 9 tailed fox when it comes up. Wish I had a team that could manage those reliably.
On the bright side I have a fair amount of rainbow angelmons, just working them up to 4* to use for evo's.

Yeah I swear one day I'll be so frustrated at this stupid essence farming it'll pop up a daily deal for $34.99 that includes 20 of each type and I'll buy it instantly. Not that the energy is really going to be used elsewhere, but this Cairos farming is for the birds. Got my Fire Inugami Awakened yesterda, almost have enough for my Wind Warbear just by running Magic dungeon. No telling when I will get my B. Hunter or Wind Ninja done.

Is there any reason to work rainbow angelmons up to 4* instead of using any other random stuff to 4*?

Was bored so did 118 pulls using Unknown Scrolls, results below.
One 3* pull, Bounty Hunter, used as skill up for my existing B. Hunter.
82/118 were Exp fodder, 14/82 of those were 2* fodder.
