I have to agree, this F2P is more like Free 2 Preview, before you just crack down and sub.
If you actually tried to play the game as ftp, you'd spend more in a month than you would for an entire year's subscription.
disclaimer: i haven't played this game. i have no association to the game
i get the point that ideally the subscription access amount should equal to ftp purchaseable parts (in so far as that's what they expect you to pay)... but aside from that... wtf is up with all the f2p complaints; they sound so entitled/spoiled.

The SWTOR F2P model is all about trying to funnel you into a sub. And if you are not plaing that game with a sub, you are getting robbed and are stupid IMO.

OTOH, the F2P is perfect if you just want to go through the story. But that's it.

just seems like market pricing.. else you'd pay what you want/value which would likely be less than that of a monthly sub. it's a aaa developed relatively new game with a brand name; it's going to cost you. (yah maybe different payment plans (pay what you want/pay for game time) might do better for them ...but i doubt it.

In my opinion the Story is the best part of the game. The F2P option was great for me, although since I finished my Sith Marauder I have zero desire to play any more.

Outside of Huttball which didnt have hooks into me, the endgame has is a snoozer and has no real lasting tug at me. I was tempted to try the Rise of the Hutt Cartel stuff, but in reading about it I didn't see much that was appealing. Really, the endgame just isn't deep enough.

I hadn't played for well over a year, but came back to try out the pvp changes. They weren't handled very well. The new 4v4 arenas are part of the regular unranked warzone queue, and you can't specify what you queue for. It's lovely how their matchmaking will put 3 dps and a tank vs 2 dps and 2 healers. I was also shocked to see they are including tax in their subscription rate now? The really odd thing is their MCC code (how they are classified with Visa/MC/Discover) is this:

Merchant Category Description GOVT SVCS NOT ELSEWHERE CLASSIFIED
Broad Industry Description UTILITIES, GOVERNMENT & EDUCATION

That is one of the SIC codes that often gets a significant reduction in the fees they are charged for processing credit cards.

My point is I want to pay a box price + maybe $10-15 for digital xpacs. Total. No accessibility punishments for playing free.

I want this game to use the gw2 model. Period. Their content is not significant enough or polished enough to warrant a sub. The engine sucks too.

My chance of that is some nerd setting up private servers.

I played for about 3 months after launch and had a fantastic time. Quit after i maxed out 2 chars and did lots of HUTTBALL!! No regrets, worth the box price and sub for a few months. What is it like now? Worth playing for a few months? I have that mmo itch but FFXIV doesnt appeal to me.

Taxes are state controlled. It's considered an online transaction and over the past decade many states of enacted laws to tax that since it used to be a convenient way to avoid paying taxes on goods.

Still doesn't explain why it got ran as a govt/education service code.

That saves only EA-Bioware money and no one else on the CC transaction fee.Nothing to do with the taxes part.

Likely a mistake though either on Bioware or who they are using for CC processing , as surely they can't be stupid enough to try and do that on purpose. The fines for fraud would likely shut the company down if they actually meant to do it and are doing it widespread.

I've been messing around in game a bit recently. The free to play stuff didn't bother me at all till I hit the 5 warzone a week limit. I figured I would just unlock that like I unlocked the other stuff but they only sell unlocks that last a week.

Seems a really bad idea to lock people out of something that needs x people (is it 16 or 20?). People are the content here so you end up screwing even subscribers this way.

I may sub a month just to slowly play through the new content and bail again. I doubt I'd start a fresh character because I already play the only class I even like (BH/mercenary.)

Nope. It's free.
Not in December... if you want free, you wait till February. Guess it's not bad though, since all you have to do is subscribe.

I haven't played since release anyway, might need to peek in and see if they've made any improvements to the gameplay.

Where the fuck is the cockpit view? Only 12 on 12? All they had to do was copy xwing v tie fighter. Sigh.

The xpac is free. Subs aren't paying any more money to get it than we normally would. Now if you aren't you a sub you have to wait for a bit.. but you still aren't paying for anything.

Nine years after SWG Jump to Lightspeed was released, Bioware releases a 'supposed' space based expansion that isn't even remotely in the same league. Didn't any of their dev team play any previous MMOs? No, Earth & Beyond does not count.

Hey, maybe after this tiny space addition 'expansion' tanks they can try a New Game Experience (NGE) to turn things around!

Seriously, they need to play Xwing vs Tie Fighter, Wing Commander, Privateer, and Freelancer to really get a good idea of how to 'start' a good space portion of an MMO. 12v12 combat with their crap setup shouldn't be an MMO addition, it should be an IOS game given to any one masochistic enough to pay a subscription to these clowns with their used car gaming marketing.

I'm disappointed. PvP only, no PvE? Sounds like a rush job, though they have been talking about the "Space Project" since right after the release. If this is a springboard for future content (they've done a decent job adding to the Reputation system since its inception) then more power to them.

My dream: They talked a while ago about adding to Operations by creating a "split group" scenario ala ROTJ or TPM where different members of the group are completing different parts of an overall battle. So like two DPS could go after a Henchman in order to get something important from him (ala Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon vs Darth Maul), two more are in space preventing reinforcements from arriving (ala Anakin against the droid control ship), and the rest of the group is accomplishing a different goal (ala Padme and her assault team) and it's all tied in together so each "group" accomplishment helps the overall progress (Naboo is free, yay!). That would be cool.
