I've had the 2013 Nexus 7 since last Christmas and I couldn't be happier. It's still speedy as hell for the things I want it to do (browsing/reading at night before bed and occasional games).

Pulled the trigger on the 2013 Nexus 7, nets for the suggestions. I had bookmarked the NewEgg and Amazon links to the item and I've just been keeping an eye on price fluctuations. Noticed it dropped from $199 to $159 on NewEgg today, shipping from a separate vendor but I don't care, worst case it take a bit longer to ship and I don't need it in two days or anything.

And looks like its already gone at that price, back to the regular NE listing of $199, vendor was listed as "Throwback Deals"? Weird. Guess I'm lucky I looked.

Anyone able to recommend a tablet/ereader (more the latter as I have an ipad mini) with a screen bigger than 6 inches? Saw the Kindle at best buy and it just feels too small. Really will be only for reading books on so nothing fancy required.

Gee I dunno, maybe the 2013 Nexus 7 that's been suggested every 3 posts?

It really is the basic generic answer=P Good, cheap, sturdy. And if it really is mostly for books you don't need something newer at all.

The problem being the > 6" request. There are few e-readers larger than that, so you're pretty much stuck with a tablet for that. Otherwise the paperwhite is excellent.

That was the concern, the 6" Kindle felt just a bit small. Wasn't sure if there really just weren't anything larger since the Kindle DX as those don't seem avail any more from the manufacturer.

I have a 1st gen paperwhite and it's awesome. 6" seems small at first, but unless you mostly read hardcovers, that's roughly the size of your average paperback page anyway. If you like to read a lot it's an outstanding device. I'd say just buy one and return it if you really can't stand the screen size.

i have both a paperwhite (wifes) and 2013 nexus (mine) and imo i'd pick the nexus. you think all you wanna do is read books but its really nice browsing reddit, reading comics, or watching video once in a while. i honestly don't see the difference in text quality, both look crisp and i get no eye stream from using the nexus for 4+ hours at a time. the kindles battery life is 10x better though so if you wanna roam untethered a lot that might be a consideration.

the new nexus 9 is absolutely gorgeous too and 8.9" so if you don't mind spending more money that could be a good option. or apple ipad air 2, lot of sales for that stuff going on right now i think. for < 10 hours of light usage a week though its hard to beat a $150 or less nexus 7

That's pretty nice, might take my 1st-gen Nexus 7 up there and trade it in. I just upgraded it to Android 5.0 and that slowed it down quite a bit, I don't think the 2012 Nexus 7 has the horses to really run Android 5.0 smoothly.
Mine slowed down a lot too. I might flash back to 4.4.

So my kid cracked my Nexus 7 screen a couple days ago. I've never actually had a cracked screen on any phones or tablets so I have no idea how to go about this. Should I pay for it to get fixed, just deal with it (it works, but it's no where near ideal), or try to trade it in?
