So my first gen Nexus 7 usb port got fucked up by my kid and did not charge anymore. So I did some investigating online and I found the part to replace. It was a bit expensive, $40, but I got it and replaced it. Took all of 10 min. Worst part about it was dealing with the 1mm micro screws. My big ass fingers had a tough time with them. I wish i had a magnetic micro screwdriver, but whatever, I did it and now it works. Im kind of proud of myself.

Does anyone know if Amazon will price-match the Staples $329 for the Asus T100?
Dunno, not sure if it's even still on sale. If it is they might. You might have better luck as a prime member too if you are. Just do a chat support with them. I know at xmas time I got them to sell me an xbox 360 for 79.99 by price-matching a kmart weblink that was a mis-price for an item they didn't even have in stock. Just gotta ask.

So tempted to get the Dell Venu 8 Pro for $199 at TigerDirect (today only). I'll probably hold off, tho. I have an iPad, and I can't think of a use case for a Windows tablet.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I was getting ready to buy a Samsung Pro 8.4, but at 400 dollars it was just too expensive. The Venue 8 Pro has the size I want while still being able to do everything I want it to, and that price is a lot more reasonable.

Although, Tigerdirect is still listing it at 199.99, so I'm not sure it was only one day. Anyway, I ordered mine from Amazon yesterday because I noticed they had it for $204, and I have always had good experiences with Amazon's shipping.

The email said that day only, but might have been a marketing ploy. Let me know how well it works.

Dell venue pro 8 WARNING, the power connector is a micro usb-b (like every device except apple) BUT it's actually a micro-A slot, so there's a tiny bit of wiggle room. Whats this mean? if you knock the connector wrong, or plug it in the wrong way it won't charge well. this happened to us (and trust me, my wife and i have tons of portable devices) basically the pro8 wouldn't charge, i took a flashlight to the connector and could see a gold pin offset... (this was after being fustrated with dells annoying indian tech support). Got a new one, so far no issues.

oh it runs great, a bit power hungry (have not played with power settings too lazy) compared to an ipad2... ipad2 will last 3-5days? dell venue pro 8 max is 3, avg is 2. but my wife streams video on it nightly, so idk.

Ive had one since mid Dec and love it. I can use it for netflix/full desktop web browsing, office/programming, and gaming I play a lot of indie and 2d games, and even some Walking Dead, Skyrim, Rayman, GW2, Torchlight 2, and Diablo 3 on it. It also runs WoW at native res, low settings, at about 40fps in towns, and SWToR and Wildstar both run around 25 30fps. It's definitely a little powerhouse. Make sure you grab a 64gb microsd as well. It's like an extra hard drive in there.

Also I've had 3 different cases, but definitely recommendAmazon.com : IVSO KeyBook Bluetooth Keyboard Case for DELL Venue 8 Pro (Windows 8.1) Tablet - will only fit DELL Venue 8 Pro (Windows 8.1) Tablet with Removable Keyboard : Computers Accessories. Get a bluetooth mouse too and it's like a mini laptop that you can take the keyboard off of and and use tablet style. I also useGameplay Gestureworksand it works great for casual gaming. Anyways, definitely recommend it if you want a good all around machine. I got mine for $199 and for the price you cannot beat it.

Gah! I couldn't resist. Bought one from Amazon. I'll try it out and see if I like it. I'm surprised it plays those games well due to the 2gb ram.

Does that thing have any kind of video output at all? I'm getting mighty tired of things on youtube not being able to be shown on my Chromecast. Hooking that up with some kind of HDMI and using a wireless mouse would make it a neat little device to be able to hook up to my TV when I wanted to watch some media, and as a night reading tablet... Not sure if I can justify the purchase right now though, but damn, that's tempting.

No, it does not have video out. The 11 inch model does. Also, the 8 does not have a regular usb port, while the 11 does. The 8 does support miracast.

You can't charge the tablet when using those cables. I'm typing this on the unit now. I think this screen size is too small for desktop mode. The tap targets are too small. The stylus looks like a must-have.

out of the box, this thing was useless. I had to tap on things about 20 times before it would register the tap. Updating the Synaptic firmware fixed it.

Even though the option is turned on to capitalize first letter of a sentence, it never does.

Ive been playing with my venue pro 8 for the past few days. I love it. Best technology purchase Ive made in a while. I haven't had any problems with taps not registering or automatic capitalization.

Overall, I think the Venue 8 Pro works well. With that said, I am going to return it. I recognize the awesomeness of full Windows on a tablet, and being able to use Chrome with all the extensions, but the screen is to small for how I want to use it. There's just not enough real estate for split screen mode. I will consider the 11 inch model, but that's a $300 price increase.

I was looking at the Dell dock for the 11 inch model. It has a couple video out ports on it. I can't seem to find out what the max resolution output it supports. I couldn't find anything on Google. In most cases, it wouldn't be a big deal, but one of my monitors runs at 2560x1440.

I agree on the 11 inch > 8. Check out the Asus T100 that was posted a few pages back and see if thats more up your alley. It's 10 inch that comes with a keyboard/touchpad dock that detaches and runs around $350-400 range. I think Springbok bought one and did a little review on it. Hey may be able to tell you more about it than I can.

My birthday is coming up and I really am thinking of asking for a T100. Springbok, can you give us a 1 month update on your purchase? You still like it? Anything you really dislike?
