^^^ Had hail like that a couple years ago late in the summer. Notified home insurance people (AmFam) within 2 days. They never opened a claim and didn't send anyone out, probably because they were so busy. They said to just get a contractor to come out and then let them know. I did but the contractor bailed, life got busy and some shit stuff happened so I kinda forgot about it.
Fast forward to a month ago and I email them. They never opened a claim and tried to say we didn't notify them within the 1 year period. I threw a fit and thankfully we had emails to back up that we had notified them immediately so they waved the 1 year requirement.
Now I'm just hoping the adjuster isn't an asshole about it.
