The situation we have there is, it's still pronounced Gabriel and you're a moron.
The way language works is the majority pronunciation is correct. This can change over time in different areas, but it's a slow process and usually requires isolation. Whatever pronunciation confers meaning to the greatest number of people without explanation tends to win.
