It's not the shifting of the color that causes problem. It's the increasing luminosity, which creates heavy rainfall, which... drains carbon dioxyde from the atmosphere.

Based on models, atmospheric CO2 could fall to 10PPM (we're at 420PPM) by 600-1200M years. At that point, there is not enough CO2 to sustain photosynthesis, O2 disappears and complex life dies out. You still get non-O2 lifeforms, but forget any form of evolved life.

Clearly the answer is giant fossil fuel-powered kilns to recalcine the limestone absorbing all the CO2.

James Webb Telescope image of a sun spot. Most detailed image of a sun spot ever.

i want a larger seestar, they went smaller.

the sensor on the smaller one is 2 megapixel
the sensor costs about 20 dollar-retail....
they put one in the ~70-80mm range for aperture size with a ~10+ megapixel sensor and i'd get it.

Same, if they made one that was a bit larger and could do planets better than the S50 it would be a no-brainer for me. Would need to be under 40lb so I can move it myself.

The smart scope market is so new companies are trying to get into their niche. Maybe they thought the Celestron smart scope had the more expensive and larger scope market down I don't know. I too thought the next one would have been 80mm or so. But I do read a lot about people wanting a large field of view. Also today say the new update on the S50 does mosiac mode to give a more seamless deal. Can be done from the app I think, apparetnly a number of people didn't know about it.

Cool, don't habe on. I saw it on cloudy nights Tuesday and saw the post about how it was a surprise to a number of people that didn't know it was in the latest update.

Did not see it on the app. Very quick search shows it as a beta option in the app. While the app is serviceable, I prefer to stack myself after I've captured images, like old-school telescopes.

I'm going to try something with my old light weight alt AZ goto mount. It is cheap but works. Going to nab a used digital slr for ~50 bucks and get a 300 mm or so telephoto lens for about 150.. And see what it can do..

So I know intellectually , that my Seestar S50 isn't set up to shoot planets but I'm messing with it tonight and well, Jupiter is right there. So I point it at the planet and it was worse than I thought it would be. You can clearly see that it's a planet , and you can see the 4 major moons. BUT, they are all blown out balls of light with trails so bad it couldn't stack/shoot. I also got a pretty big firmware update today so that mosaic thing may be part of it. I usually manually level mine (before shooting) and I had to dig down a few locations to find the level button.

Tweet is kind of clickbaity. Unless they can transmit data faster than the speed of light, you still are going to have around a 13ish minute delay each way, so there is no “instant communication”

That being said, having a more robust means of data transmission would be nice for both manned and unmanned missions
